Hi all,

I tried to post this before but I'm having computer problems. Please forgive me if this is a duplicate, and ignore the other one.... :D

My voice is not loud no matter how much I push, and I am not particularly rich sounding either. I am looking to get a mic that adds a flattering bit of color and depth to my voice. I am a tenor. I'v ebeen unsing an ADK Vienna, and I like it, but it does not have the warmth and depth I want. But I NOT want to loose any detail. The Vienna has great detail.

Please vote for one of the mics listed. Thanks!!

So how about, 'something in that list might do it depending on what your voice sounds like'?

What is your proximity to the mic while singing? Moving in a couple of inches might give you exactly what you need.

Also, if you like the detail of the mic but want to accentuate some other frequencies, a good EQ would be a better purchase if you don't already own one.

I appreciate all of your responses.

mixit - I would have posted a clip of my voice - the obvious thing to do - but I just can't right now. Several reasons. So I gave the most poinient details I could think of, and what I was after. I know all of those mics are good, but I don't know which one favors the tenor's range and has a pleasant coloration. I know some mics sound better when paired with a singer of a certain range, I just don't know if it has been broken down into groupings of probable compatability. I hear the AKG 414 can be bright, which might not be what I need, but most people that use them love them for the majority of singers. And I never hear anything other than praise for Nuemann, seemingly no matter what the mic/singer combo is. As far as ribbons go, I have zero experience with them. I have just heard that they are not very versitile. They can be the ideal mic in one or two situations, and that's not too appealing to me right now.

War - I've experimented a lot with mic placement. It just doesn't have the "thing". But a good EQ is a great idea. I've been looking for a plug in EQ and I just didn't think of the possibilities if I were to apply that my mic issue. Do you have any suggestions on a good one? I was thinking 32 band and no noise...... :D

Zed, what else are you using in your recording chain besides the Vienna? What preamp? Converters?

It is really impossible to find what you are looking for without hearing your voice and knowing the rest of your signal chain. Might as well put all those mics on a dartboard and fire away!

For full low end on vocals I enjoy the Pultec in the UAD-1 in plug in world. I've been wanting to check out that Solksis EQ that I've heard some guys raving about.
