I don't know if anyone has tried this, but wouldn't it be cool if someone were to record basic rythym tracks to a song, post each track on a webite as an mp3, and then have others download them(convert them back to .wav) and work with them and then (after converting the completed song back to mp3)post them up for everyone to hear. I am thinking about doing it, so let me know if you're interested. It would be kind of like a jam sesion or collaboration with people you've never met...

I was actually planning to do that with a friend of mine who lives like 400km away... she doesn't really understand MP3's and Wave's though, as she has a Mac. SO it could be hard.

But yes, if you wanted to collaborate, I would be interested. I play rock'n'roll guitar (mostly power-pop [Weezer-style] stuff but I can do different stuff if you want), and sing to some extent (although I have a somewhat "young" voice - I'm 16).
We could try something, if our musical interests are somewhat similar. Any other takers?

Oh yes, and we'd have to keep the encoding on the mp3's nice and good and HIGH. Like 192 kpbs at least, because it's being decoded/encoded multiple times. And none of that Bladeenc stuff that comes with N-Track, that's horrid.

I've got some pretty basic stuff worked out on a few songs...I figure I will get some tracks laid down and put them up on my site for you(and anyone else interested!)I'll put some together in the next few days and get them posted by friday(hopefully). I think I want to have kind of a gallery going, where we can post up the finished mp3's we come up with. This could be really cool...
Also, I will check on how we can share these audio tracks with mac users...I am pretty sure it can be done...
Check back on the bbs in the next few days and I will have more info...

Sonny,

If you are posting them as MP3s, Mac users should have no problem.

As far as what it is you want to post... are you talking about stereo rhythm tracks? Then someone will download this and record a guitar solo over part of it? For more flxibility you might export each track as a separate MP3. Then drummers can leave out the drums and put on their own, bassists can leave out the bass and do their own, etc.

I'm curious to hear what results from this. I've wondered whether it might be a workable way to collaborate with a friend who lives just far enough away to make getting together in person difficult.

I'm game..... keep me in the loop. I've got a pretty nice mixing setup that is great for such
a project. I use the Peavey StudioMix with CW PA9 and various other gadgets.
I like the idea of individual mp3 files for the various parts. Each can be imported into
projects as needed. Sounds like the right way to do it if sync problems don't arrise.
There are a plenty of free websites out there where these files could be posted and
downloaded as needed. You may end up with a variety of results which would be
a great learning tool for eveyone. pete o

Well it's 3 hours shy of Friday here in So Cal, but I still encourage you to post what you've got. Speaking from experience, this type of jam is a lot of fun, but different from a live jam. You'll see. And I don't even hold it against those that try to do this with CW... :)
Whatever works is where it's at.

Wow, This really sounds like a good idea...Keep the thread going and post when the initial music bed is ready; I'd like to give it a try.

LET'S DO IT!

I got some rhythym tracks to post!

Let's give it a go 'round.

I'd love to get ya'all involved. It is a song that started thru here. I could post the rhythm tracks only if anyone is game. Hell, I could even put it on a cd and mail it.

Yes Yes

yeah I'kll be in it - I suggested it to dragon for the tracks from the boat but got nothin back - I can maybe stick keys on it or something but my best attribute would be to mix it - I want to see if multiple MP3s when blown out to waves still stay in sync??

Cheers - I'll keep a tab on this thread cos this is interesting - better than God :D
