Not fully mixed yet. I had a tough time with some parts playing. It's one of those songs you just hate to do retake after retake.

Anyway, hope you like it.

BTW it's INSTRUMENTAL. So that will chase away 99%.

It's called 'The Question' for no particuliar reason of course.

I was able to listen to parts of it via Hi-Fi play, but I have yet to be able to download it- It's currently arriving at the blazing pace of 236 bytes- yes BYTES per second.
Timed out after just 736KB after 40 minutes! But I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve to smuggle those bytes into my system. And you know I'm gonna try.
Some blazing guitar work on that track. You captured the flavor of the Dixie Dregs. A fiddle would sure sound great weaving in and out against that fast guitar.

Absolutely excellent. Really liked it, you got some fingers. As DrStawl said, you gotta add some fiddle someday. I know a guy in Ohio who plays violin...

Hey Doc, thanks for checking it out, even partly! Download should work.

DavidK: Hey thanks man. Appreciate it. I'd love to hear fiddle on this! Thanks for checking it out.

It sucks, cause I know how I want it to sound... but I just can't 100% pull it off! oh well!

Am I a musician or a performer or neither?

Thanks for the listen.

Was able to grab it easily via DSL. Just a no-go via cable...

I wouldn't bother making excuses for how you wanted it to sound.

Let me reiterate. It was a great performance captured to 128Kbps mp3.

The final product shows you had a coherent (and highly musical) idea and
got it to "tape" as it were. That's what really counts.
I didn't hear you over-reaching for licks that were beyond your ability.

That break starting at ~1:15 was so complicated I don't think you could ever
be satisfied that you did it "perfect": Along the lines of electron position and momentum.
And the closer you got the more it would sound like an unquantized MIDI file......

Hi Emeric!

GREAT stuff!!!!(although all your stuff has always been good:cool: )

"It sucks, cause I know how I want it to sound... but I just can't 100% pull it off! "

Maybe some of the notes were a little fuzzy....but it's all movin' so fast .....damn that's some great playin'!

...and I agree some fiddle on that would be awesome.

BTW...it took me a couple tries to stream it (busy net tonite) but it was well worth the effort.

Thanks again Drstawl.

It's not so much that I want it perfect, it's just annoying. It isn't that it's out of reach - just has to be a damn really good day.

Mac2 - Thanks for listen, I wish it was half time. It's not the type of stuff I really like. Actually it is, but it's just to hard to play(for me), takes too much energy. Back to 3 chord rock.

Thanks for listening!

It sounds like Saga (a GREAT Canadian band!) got together with Chet Akins on that song... very cool. :)

Nice guitarwork, as usual.

If I tried to play that fast I'd need a splint on every finger on my left hand until I recovered! ;)

Excellent performance and mix, too.

You da man, Emeric!

Buck

Man,

I am FEELING this piece.

As far as the mix, its awesome as usual. Its very loud and has this clarity while being at the same time spicy(spicy is a great thing)

I simply love the snare. I love the tone, but why did you not pan it a bit?

All in all, I think its a great mix. I love the way it ends too.

Em, again what can I say!!!! 1st, I LOVE instrumentals!!(I can't
sing for sh#t!) 2nd, your git skills are nuthin' short of phenominal!
3rd, the song ROCKS!!!! Man,I would LOVE to do a collabo with you!!!

Awesome & Powerful!!! I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!

Emeric,......

Only one word I can think of.......

Awesome.....

Fan..f..tastic guitar work dude...
And that is comin from a finger-pickin fool, I don't think a fiddle player would be able to keep up with you, unless it was someone like Jon Luc Ponty, or a contemperary of his....

Wow, how come you are still not famous dude...???
with skills like that, you should be,...!!!

Upstate :D

Emeric,

Figured I'd come out of hibernation long enough to listen to your tune.

It was well worth the wake up. Forget about the chops (chops are a means to an end). It's all about direction - you obviously know where you're going musically. Everything in this track sounded like it had a purpose. No throwaway riffing. Fine piece of work.

Time to resume hibernation............

Buck62: Saga, yeah they were a great band! Haven't heard their tunes for ages. That's a pretty heavy duty combination you got there! Thanks for the listen!

Hey Cyan, appreciate the feedback. I tend to leave the snare as centered as possible. Unless after some type of effect. Glad you like the snare, I have a very hard time getting snares to sound right, and rarely happy with the end result. Good this got a little closer.

Mr. Q - Thanks! I like instrumentals to. Their a good break from playing pop stuff. Hey if you ever want to put some bass lines let me know! I hate playing bass and I know you would do 1000X better than my current bass player (me).

Hey UpstateNY. Glad you liked it! I'd like to check out your finger style/playing. Is it on the Q tapes? If anyone cares, my main 'technique' for any guitar playing is a mix of Albert Lee and Danny Gatton. Two fantastic guitar players, Gatton is dead of course, sadly. Why I'm not famous? heheh :) good one! Thanks for the vote.

psmith66: Good to see you out of hibernation, must be getting cold over there. Looking forward to another 'snow rage' winter I bet. I'm happy to hear that it sounds somewhat cohesive. I didn't want it to sound like a bunch of thrown together riffs (although it is some degree!). Thanks for the d/l.

Sounds like

This song sounds more like a riddle than a question.

Oh well....

Thanks for checking it out Dboy! Riddle, Question.. maybe both.

Odd place for your first post on the BBS, I'm honoured!

Certainly not a song for the masses...

Oh well... :)

Emeric, that tune's going on a tape and will be living on the dashboard of my truck, when it isn't in the tape deck. It'll have good company there - Larry Carlton comes to mind.

I have to leave for work, but I'll try to post something more substantive when I get a chance.

Nice work. You ever come to Vermont?

hey,

Listened to both tunes. Couldn't get hifi to work though except for brief fine segments. Lofi didn't match up tecnically but that's no fault of yours.

I'm friends with a couple, that's a lowball figure, of guitar players, that you'd probably know of from these parts. I know they'd like your work as I did. After hearing your style you'd probably like some of my stuff from a few years back done with one of the many bands I've been in....haven't we all.

Interesting that you created The Solution before The Question. I don't know where the "fiddle" suggestions came from. Hey I like the fiddle but it honestly never came to mind. In The Solution I did hear a Rickenbacher 12string a-la Byrds or Hollies.

Both tunes were excellent on their own but could easily have lyrics applied.

Keep up the good work...I know you will.

Rusty K

Emeric, this is fantastic! I'll have to "listen" a little closer for a real techie-type review, but for now I just want to listen to it for the fun of it...you know what I mean?

This is the most exciting part of this site as far as I'm concerned. The chance to hear so much really great music out there. Unfortunately I haven't downloaded very much lately just because of the slowness of my connection. But when I see a new Emeric tune...I'm there, man!

Great stuff.

Emeric, just curious, do you write and read sheet music? if so, is this written on anything sendable, like finale or Encore ( I have encore)?
I listened to this tune again. Really quite special. I am very curious as to your training, how you did this, yada yada.

I read Rustys comment on fiddle. Perhaps we could find out if it would work or not. I know it is very crude, but is it possible to record an mp3 into cakewalk, or import one? I dont think it would make any musical sense for a violin to just double your part, and the composition is fine the way it is, so I dont think it would make sense to "jam" over the tune.

What I think would be cool is to someday turn this tune into a "Dueling banjos". Maybe someday we will try it. This tune reminds me a lot of a YES tune, I forget the name, but it is on side two of Relayer and is in 5/4 time. I wanna say Soundblaster, but that doesnt sound right.

Excellent playing. You might just be a "musician" after all (not sure about that, I will check Websters and get back to you on that). Dave
