This song is in malayalam, which is from Kerala, India.
I did this song using Cubase 5, using VSTs like HalionOne and EZdrummer.
The vocals were recorded using Neumann U87.
What do you think I should improve in this song? Any improvements/suggestions?

Constructive criticism greatly appreciated.View attachment Ennal.mp3

Very nice song. The vocals seem disconnected from the instruments, the drums too to a lesser extent. They sound like they have reverb (or maybe a "room mic" on the drums). Maybe try sending a little bit of everything to the same reverb to put them in the same space and blend a little better.

Bro this sounds really good!

I think the vocals kind of got lost in the mix. If you can bring up the vocals, I think it may sound better. Who is the singer bro? Sounds like yesudas?

Also, I think the instruments sounds a bit too electronic and vocals a bit vintage. I think the instrument mix needs a bit more low end to match the voice. Just my 2cent newbie suggestions

Sounds great! I agree with a little more bass in the bass comment. Drums sound a little far back in the mix for my taste. I had the volume up, and the first note from that instrument startled me with that quick attack/volume jump.

The vocals and strings sound fantastic.

Hey, thanks for your feedback. I have not used any reverb on the drums. I have boosted a little of the lows and the highs. I think I will have to use another VST, or maybe fiddle around with the settings in EZdrummer. I will add another reverb channel and send everything through it.
Thanks again

Thanks bro. I will definitely increase the levels of the vocals. The singer is Pastor Aji Puttoor, even I felt like that when I heard his voice the first time. As I said, I don't have much access to natural instruments, therefore I try to use VSTs wherever possible. So maybe that's why it sounds unnatural. I will implement your advice in this song.
Thanks for your feedback. :D

Hey cmorris975, thanks for your feedback. I will work on the bass part and add more bass to it. I definitely think I should change the VST to something less roomy. I'm sorry for the intro, even I had the same problem, but I didn't really fix it. I will fix it now.

Great singer with good vibrato! You could try some automation up on the vocals, though, because on some of the verses, where is singer sings in his lower range, it gets a little dull sounding.
And don't sweat it with the VI's vs real instruments - it sounds fine for the genre.

Thanks Luke, do you mean to use level automation on the vocals? or some sort of EQ automation?

i just love this song. I am listening to it again this morning! As someone wrote, the singer is very good. If this was a movie song , this would have been an hit :). I would love to hear it again with all the changes you made.

Great job!!

I think this sounds pretty good.

I agree with the comments that the vocal is a bit low in the mix. I also agree that the instruments sound a little "electronic" (read MIDI) and the vocal sounds natural.

I don't agree with the comment about it needing a stronger low end. To me the low end is just right.

There was also a percussive part that I didn't care for. It sounded like castenets, but I'm not exactly sure what it was. To me it was just a distraction and didn't help the song. If it were me, I'd take it out.

Yea, Automate some air

Right, Maybe automate your graphic EQ plugin, and with an 8K or higher self, turn it up for the lower notes and then down for the upper range, but make it subtle. This would be in addition to your existing EQ settings - a subtle presence boost on his lower register
