Since this is the RECORDING TECHNIQUES corner I thought I would bring up or mention my most important technique I use in everyone of my recording sessions that I'm either involved in, or producing: Creating and maintianing a great attitude and capturing that incredible loose warm feeling on to "Tape".
I just got done with a nice little 5 hour tracking session with one of my Keyboardist and Vocalist, My Wife (Also a Vocalist), and myself (Guitar/Guitar Synth/Vocalist).
We were able to track 6 tunes, and I must say that very little feels as good as a good night of tracking. It's really just incredible!!!!
I'm rarely one to spend much time on a tune when we are laying down the "bands" tracks. My goal is to always capture the right "feeling" for the tracks first and formost. If it's not clicking then we just simply move on to the next track. So on each track we try to get everything we can done in about 30 minutes or less. This gives us a good basis to finish the track later (i.e.: Final and back ground vocals, additional lead instrument parts, additional live percussion, etc).
So to get 6 songs done in 5 hours is pretty typical for the way I produce...20 to 30 minutes of tracking, with an additional 20 to 30 miutes of goofin' off. This formula seems to help me capture nice loose feeling tracks.
A good example of how this type of formula has worked for me in the past can be heard by checking out some of the "kids" songs over at my SongRamp page(www.AcousticTones.com). A very loose feel with a very tight musical performance.
I'm really hoping to have most of these recording completed soon so we can get this project out before Christmas time. And I'm hoping to post some of our "working" tracks over at SongRamp with in the next 2 to 3 weeks for your reviews.
And I also just wanted to post, for those that care, a comment about how the Godin and GR-33 are working out. The GR-33 will make it onto all of these tracks and a few others, if not 90% of the tracks on this entire project. I am REALLY lovin' this set up. I has been pretty flawless both live and in the studio. It has really change how I approach each track. You really start to think a lot more about your arrangements and instrumentation when you have this many sounds and tones at your disposal. Just simply incredible!!!!
Well, only one thing left to say....KEEP TRACKIN'!!!!
