I see LOADS of people advertising for singers.

Something that I've come across that works brilliantly... Find a college that does a (Popular) music course. Check out the final years performances... Find someone you like and offer them a job... THEY'LL JUMP AT IT!

... I did!

If they're not sure, see if they could use the process as part of there course marks... 'professional practice' or something. There are some phenominal singers around and most are looking for work - if the songs are up to it!!! ;)

...just try not to come across as a dirty old man trying to score college girls!!!!!

You will be supprise to see many good singers in a karaoke club.

I second this. Not necessarily classically trained, but some people who can really belt it out. And you know they can sing drunk too. :D

I work with two local songwriters (arranging and recording demos). Both of these guys found some very good singers in Karaoke bars. Although a couple were intimidated in a studio environment, with some subtle coaching and help, I was able to get good performances out of them (isn't that part of what a producer should do?).

One of these singers has become a 1st call demo singer in town. She now gets about $200 per song - I think we paid her $25 when we 1st started recording her.
