interesting idea. But sorry dude, i'm just not feeling this. I'll be that guy.

I dig the background music, and even the idea of spoken word over the background music. I think some of this could actually be pretty cool if you took her poems, and had someone else read them with a bit more feeling and awareness to the background music being spoken over. I appreciate what you're trying to do here, it's just not jiving with me.

Mix sounds pretty spot on though :D

hi santiu: thanks for checking out the music. I agree that her sound is strange. Being Autistic, she has a totally different take on life than most of us. Her sound, like her personality, can grate on me at times. Mixing her stuff is a lot of work on my ears. My goal is to capture Gwen just as she wants to sound. I try not to clutter up the backing instruments. My goal is to keep it simple and complimentary to her singing. I never overdub except when I record with her. Her vocals are shrill and I have to add bass sounding stuff to offset it. I tried early on to help her arrange the songs, but she wants nothing to do with that. It is funny, because on the karaoke tracks of her favorite songs, her phrasing fits perfect, but on her stuff it is just a flow of conciousness (I think). Gwen sure isn't for everyone, but what she teaches me over and over again is to do ones art without concern for others. It makes her feel great and that is all she wants out of it. Take Care. Walter

More power to her for that.

But, since this is a forum where you're asking for feedback, I have to say that I wasn't able to get through half of that without wanting to shoot myself. Really, no offense, but I couldn't take it.

Well...for me, it made me cry. Not because she sounded bad, but because she touched my heart.

Music is a great therapy for Autism and I admire you Walter, for taking the time and having the patience to work with this beautiful young woman. Kudos to you! ...and kudos to her, for using what she has been given to work with!!!!

Nothing like the innocence of children to put things into perspective..she did not get on my nerves, but rather drew me in, for a closer listen to her heart.

Just to be clear, it's not neccassarilly just her voice. I can hear the soul in that poem. But, saying she's autistic doesn't matter to me when it comes to trying to enjoy this. Everyone has a story that will break your heart, but we can't always pre-face a song with someone's handicap or heartbreak, or whatever is behind it. Tiny Tim was retarded, but it doesn't make his singing any less annoying to my ears.

And, for this song, the "music" was just as, if not more annoying, than her voice. I'm not being cold. Just honest.

Sorry.

I appreciate the honest feedback. I am a special education teacher and to see a girl that resembles someone that is having nails driven into their skull when asked to converse with others, this music angle is a gift for sure. I love her words. Taking it further to recording together has expanded our ability to converse. I feel blessed to know Gwen and have a little studio that allows her to express herself. I have always been drawn to the disabled and their art. They have been a big part of what I do. The music industry has told me for decades no one can record a few hundred cds a year via making it all up as you go along. Coming to peace with this has been in part due to the work I have done with the disabled.
What I love about Gwen is she creates because she has to, with no concern for others. This is what intrigues me and makes me question what is "right and wrong" with art, and reinforces me doing what I do. What makes me nuts is when us "normal" folks conciously attempt to sound different. To think "how can I sound diferent" is just plain boring and embarrasing.

I am thinking of doing a book of her poetry with her reciting the poems acapella and including the music cd as well. My hopes are she can make a few bucks off it to keep her in blank cds, labels, and cases. We perform Friday evening at an art show for mentally disabled artists. She is excited as heck. Last year we played the same show to over 300 people who bought her cds and loved it. I hope someday to have a dedicated recording space that can capture the mentally disabled doing music, poetry and performance art. Again, thanks for taking the time to give her a listen. Walter

I am sorry, but it did get on my nerves a little. With that said, I also listend to ghost in the house. With her problem, I understand the way that her voice sounds, and it would take getting used to. All in all though, I though ghost in the house was very cool. I liked it.

She's a beautiful human being, from what I can see.
