Working on a new mix. Still learning all this DAW stuff and it's a slow process. Would like some sincere feedback on this one. I did all the instrumentation (midi) and vocals myself. Am I getting warmer??

My duct taped headphones are dying (I have to wiggle them for the right side to work) and I could use another set of ears.

Thanks in advance.

Personally I found the bass a bit distracting and would have preferred an earthier bass tone than the springy tonality you have used. Your vocal tone is pleasant to my ear and the track sounds polished while maybe lacking some aspects of authenticity in the mid to lows. Don't get me wrong it has good quality to the sound but the genre possibly needs a slightly less contrived approach. And maybe when you sing this kind of content, do it after you've just lost half your life savings betting on a horse or found your partner in a compromising position with your worst enemy. Not a lot too offer constructively in respect of your recording methodology, other than put your self mentally in front of a smokey stage and try and reconcile your placement of the projected instrument sounds with what you might expect to see in reality.

Very promising

I don't know this song, although I certainly heard Amy sing here and there before she passed.

I think you vocals came out really nice. To the extent that I understand what phrase is saying though I think I agree with him. Particularly about the bass. I think the vocals could come up a bit and the bass down. Also, the bass tone is really unusual. "Springy" is a great term...it could be cool in some context, but here I think you'd want a mellower, rounder tone.

Overall sounds really good though.

Edit...finding these phones pretty bass-heavy, so maybe forget my comment about the level, but the tone is still springy! :D

I like the mix - a lot. I played with a synth bass player for a couple of years so I'm familiar with that tone. I don't find it springy at all - it's not going to sound like a bass guitar and will have a more even level (way easier to mix). I like the sync between bass and drum you have there. The bass is leaning towards a lead instrument here I like it at this level.
