I was wondering if anyone here has any experience getting a good recording with amplitube using a tube pre amp? And if it sounded comparable to micing a real guitar amp.

When recording with amplitube what is the best way to get the best tone? I use a tube pre amp and I figure that helps some. Would running it out to a real guitar cabinet and micing the guitar cab also sound good.

This is not simply a question, I wanted to hear from people who have experience using amplitube and all of the different things they have tried and what worked the best. I would love to hear clips also.

I have a 6505 half stack which is in my new home studio, blackstar ht-40 and vypyr 60 tube. For some of the tones I wouldn't mind using amplitube but would it go well doubled with a real guitar amp and cabinet? I like how amplitube has plenty of rack gear and all the stomp boxes one could need.

I get the best clean channels out of my peavey vypyr. Although the pre amp is solid state, the power amp being tubed really gives it a warm good clean tone that I like using on recordings. But amplitube also has some really good clean tones that can be set up.

My use of amp modeling is less frequent now that I am almost 100% acoustic but I have found that I get some of my best clean tones from using a really good DI into Amplitube. I see a lot of people tend to try stacking cheap tube gear in front of the software and all they really do is add noise... Amplitube is emulating some very fine tube gear in the first place, all a lot of guys are using is a cheap ART tube preamp or something like that... Why bother? Just get a really nice solid state if you are going to go into a tube emulation anyway. Also a lot of newbies tend to mismatch the impedance running a guitar into a line level input when they really need to use a DI box or something of that nature to help get the tone across.

I agree about the really cheap pre amps. I had a presonus blue tube and I couldn't tell any difference. It didn't give any warmth. This is a 2 channel MPA ii reference series. It actually makes a huge difference. I was very surprised. They already changed the tubes out to better tubes. It isn't like the cheap art pre amps you see everyone get that really do nothing. So I know exactly what you mean. Been through it. Check out the MPA ii ART reference series. It's actually very nice. Makes a ton of difference for me.
