ampex 797 5ag111 for sale

I have approx 60 reels of Ampex 797 5ag111 , all brand new and mint never been touched , in the box etc made by Quantegy
selling one on ebay at the moment

Just wondering if it is useful to anyone , and roughly what it is worth , an ebay membe rhas contatacted me wnating to buy some , but have no idea what the going rate for this kind of gear is .
any help and advic ewould be appreciated
please note I live in the Uk so shipping to the usa would be prohibitive

Well, 797 is wide band instrument tape. It's made to record high-frequency measurements. It is typically used in machine that run on insane speeds, like 120 ips.

I guess it's not very good for audio. Mail the guy who bught the 16-track. My guess this is the tape that it's made for.

Right, 797 is not audio recording tape. It should be listed under industrial test equipment, and not consumer or pro audio. Just to be clear instrumentation does not mean musical instruments, but rather test and monitoring devices used for scientific and industrial applications.
