:D

My first thought:

Combined weight= 205 pounds, and it won't fit in a car.

Second: It will probably sound great.

i second that.
having owned a ampeg 8X10 cab this is what i thought.

AWSOME
2 gigs later i traded it for a 2X10 david eden cab.

if i had rodies, i'd still have the cab.

I had an SVTII pro head, an 8x10, 1x15, and 1x18. I dropped the 8x10, then the 1x18 and it sounds better than before.

What kind of stuff do you mostly play? Personally, I prefer the SVT 4 pro head over the 5, and even the Classic head over the 5.

I refuse to play live anymore, as of 5 years ago. It dawned on me one day that I don't need people that don't play music critiquing my performance and comparing my music to the latest generation of whatever's on the radio. It's nothing but an ego stroke that I don't need, I'm plenty egotistical without it. So, to answer your question, I usually plug my bass into a JoeMeek VC1Q, compress it and eq it then send it into Logic. My SVTII is sitting in my garage with a few boxes on it and my cabinets are with a friend who hasn't had enough of playing live yet.

You can fit an 8x10 into a car. You just have to get creative :) I've fit mine into my Civic, so I know it can be done.

I play punk, metal any type of rock sub genre. im going to get into some blues later tho. I was checking them both out the 4 and the 5 and i like the fact that the 5 has more power and that it has the built in distortions and octave effects and the two effects loops i dont really used effects loops but i pretty sure i will now lol.

I got over my "Ready Kilowatt Wall Of Sound" phase 20 years ago when I realized I had to move all that crap by myself. Unless of couse you ARE playing stadiums and have trustworthy Roadies.

For what you described ( minus the blues part), the Ampeg SVT4pro and the 8x10 classic cab is easily the most common stack you will see on tour and stuff. Personally, I am not a fan of the extra effects on the SVT5, and somehow I just don't think they sound quite as good (even with the effects off). It's a pretty subtle difference though. As far as the power goes, the 4pro offers more than you will probably ever use. You can actually drive 2 of the 8x10's off the 4pro alone. But, if you want the xtra stuff, than I see no reason not to get the 5pro either:)

I almost bought the Ampeg 8x10 cab but instead got an SWR workingman's 8x10 about 4 years ago and wouldn't want another cab. It only weighs 110lbs and rolls like a hand truck when you tilt it back. Oh, and it sounds great. I got the SWR cab because I couldn't afford the Ampeg but I'm glad I didn't get that beast. Now if I was touring and had roadies I would have 3 or 4 Ampeg 8x10's. I would still be using SWR amps though.
