Ampeg ReverbeRocket Or Fender Twin?

Just another guy, really.
Doing a motorcycle project trade for a guitar amp. We are both down with, and pretty much happy to do the trade- the other guy has offered either an Ampeg Reverberocket, or a SF Fender Twin Reverb. Both are mid/late 70's vintage.

We already have one SF TR, so I am thinking the Ampeg would be the better choice for amp-closet diversity... but we also already have an Ampeg VT-40. I am inclined to go with the Ampeg- opinions or thoughts?

Not unrelated, but also not necessarily the deciding factor, but the Fender would be the better investment, right?

Thanks.

Nothing beats stacking two Fender Twin Reverbs and bi-amping them. Plus silver face Fenders seem to be going up in value.

However I've never heard an Ampeg ReverbRocket, but on the other hand I'm less than partial to Ampeg, I really hate their amps, but I love their guitars...

I really like pavement and i know they used a reverb rocket on the first album. Thats about all i know about them. Fender amps sound great. Stacking two may be good, probably a lot more power than you need. At my last show the guitarist was using a blues jr and there were about 600 people there

I play both

Each of the guitarists in my band play through these amps. A Heritage hollow body with seymour JB and 59 thru the Reverberocket, and a Fat Strat thru the fender twin. Both guys are using pedals and such, but I've also played my double fat strat and an american tele thru both of them. The TWIN WINS hands down! Much clearer tone and better reverb. Sounds much better thru modded tubescreamers and ross style compressors too. The Reverberocket has an accordion input though... maybe thats the dealbreaker.

I have a V-2 which is much like the V-4 except less power and I have a Reverbrocket. My reverbrocket is the reissue.
Reverbrockett's gonna be WAY different than the V-4 .. Totally different amps. The reissue breaks up pretty quick and the old one's even quicker.

What are you after...resale value or a particular tone?

If you need LOUD-n-CLEAN (maybe too loud)...get the Twin.

If you need more crunch without ear-bleed...get the Rocket.

I'd get the Ampeg. If it were me, I wouldn't want two of the same amp, if I had the chance to own 2 different vintage amps, but then I've never tried "bi-amping"...

I have a '65 Reverberocket 1X12 that I've been using almost exclusively for 15 yrs. or so. I love it, but it isn't very versatile. I've played through a few '70's twin reverbs and a '70's Princeton Reverb over the years and found them to be louder, cleaner and brighter. The Ampeg is conversely warmer and thicker or fuller sounding.

I think the twin reverb is almost certainly worth a lot more money though. Yours is a good problem to have :).

Well, in a little bit of luck (I am no Sweetbeats, but I have my moments...) I talked to the guy today, and asked him if he knew anyone who might want to buy a second bobber motorcycle project I have. He said he knew someone who would love to have it, but has very little cash- then he called back about an hour later and offered to trade me the OTHER amp (I had told him I was going with the Ampeg) for "Bobber II." I found out during that conversation that the Twin is actually a '65 reissue (calm down, it was made in '92, not '65) but is in pristine cosmetic condition. The Fender has tremolo and reverb issues, the original offer would have included having those repaired, but he said he won't come out of pocket for the second bike when I countered with him paying up to $150 towards the repairs- but he did throw in a SM-58 mic, so we have a deal.

Overall, I am a bit stoked about this- getting both amps, repair cost may be modest, and I am getting two motorcycle projects that I have not found the time for for over a year out of my garage.

Now if I can find someone to almost give me a whole truck-load of vintage analog gear, I will be in high cotton...
