Hi

I just wondered if someone could help me which amp simulator has the best sound in your opinion and which recording studios use most?

Amplitube
Guitar Rig
Waves GTR
Nomad Factory - Rock Amp Legends

Thanks for your help in advance

Darren W :) :)

Get a real tube amp. ;)

That said I use "real" tube amps and modelers. Modelers are very convenient at midnight. :)

I've only played around with some of them software based one's, and I experienced CPU hit and latency. Although spend some time with one and I'm sure there woudn't be a problem.

I prefer the hardware units like POD and V-Amp. There's a billion threads on modelers so do a search and read up on them. I've been hearing a lot of good things about the Vox Tonelab.

I prefer the PodXT rack mount. Now that you can update the thing with a USB cable and download new sounds, it's great.

It doesn't replace a great tube amp, but in order to have the versatility of the pod, you would need $100,000 worth of amps.

I use a POD XTL. It's very versatile, and as Farview pointed out, you can get many sounds off the net now. I will eventually get a good amp, but for now, I can't justify it, so having a modeler is good for me.

Recording studios use real amps, usually tube. If you can get rid of all the latency, then any of those will sound fine.

Recording studios use what ever is available that does the job. Most recording studios don't have 20 or 30 amps lying around. Most musicians only have a couple amps. Having a Pod handy can give you a Fender amp sound when all you have is marshalls and mesas laying around. It may not sound just like a Fender when put up against a real one, but it's much closer than anything you have available. (and none of your listeners will know the difference)

In my opinion the free simulanalog guitar suite sounds better than all those combined. Sounds better, uses less CPU, easier to use, and FREE.

But if you want all the extra effects and everything... I'd say it's a toss up between Guitar Rig 2 and Amplitube 2. They're both pretty good. I'd say you should just demo them both and see (hear) which one you like best.
