i have purchased the following a set up of mpc2000xl, korg trinity rack, proteus 2000 & jv2080. my question is on what type of mixer i should purchase if any. i have a computer which i want to run everything thing thru ( i have cubase 5.1 vst) and i was wondering should i purchase a mackie mixer or a soundcard and use the mixer with my cubase software. any help you could give would be greatly appreciated...

thanks

I would put money into a decent soundcard right now. For the time being, you can definitely use the mixer within your software to accomplish all of your mixing needs.

Determine how many ins/outputs that you will need, whether you want S/PDIF, optical, and MIDI connections on the soundcard.

I would check out Steinbergs tested audio cards here http://service.steinberg.net/testbase.nsf/showHomepageView/Configuration?EditDocument to be sure that the card you purchase will work well with your software. RME, Delta, Echo, Aardvark, MOTU are some of the names that you could check out as far as options go to suit your needs.

Later on, you may want to purchase a mixer if you want more of a hands on approach to mixing.

The devices you described all have line level signals, so you could manage without a mixer, unless you need to record through mics too.
