working in a small bedroom studio here. would you agree that when recording a guitar amplifier (with a close mic and room mic) it is most important to have some sort of treatment on the wall directly behind the amplifier? any recommendations on where to place the amp within the room assuming the room is a square ? (IE, middle of room, backed up to a wall, backed up to a corner). Does anyone have some recommendations on some non- permanent treatment for bedroom studio project?

Is the amp/cab open-back or closed-back?

Room treatment is good regarldess of the cab type...but open-back will certainly make use of the back wall more than a closed-back cab.
I would move the cab away from the wall at least 2-3 feet....and in the middle of a wall (not in the corners).

it is an open back. do you know of any non permanent treatment i could easily put up when recording and take down when not sense i am working out of a bedroom

You could hang "stuff" on the wall(s).....or you could forgo the room mic and just use a close mic....and/or you could use the close mic and cover the entire amp/cab/mic rig with a couple of quilts and take the room out for the most part. WIth that, you can even move the mic a foot or two away from the cab, and just make sure you cover everything.
If you have a closet with a lot of clothes....stick the cab and mic in there and close the door.

I mean....there are options, and you'll just have to experiment to see which one works best for you in your current situaiton.

No.
I would agree that it is most important to think about whether a room mic can yield something great in a bedroom.

Put the amp anywhere in the room, slap a mic in front, record, listen.
Rinse and repeat until you have something useful.

There are two types of room treatments.

One for mixing so the room is neutral so the mix is consistent across various systems and listening environments.

The other is to get desired sound for what ever you are recording. Want natural reverb, go in a hall way, church hall, parking garage. Room has too much life, throw some rugs, curtains, sound treatments until it has the desired effect. Don't like the room sound, close mic it to remove as much room influence as possible.

So room treatment when playing is different than for mixing.

Back it up to a wall. Being an open back cab, you will effectively be closing it off. No problem. Turn it up loud, mic it in front, and put the room mic anywhere you want because you will probably not wanna use that track anyway because you recorded it in a small bedroom.
