Anyone know of a good amp modeler? I dont care about acheiving a specific amp's tone, like the fender twin blazer 120443 with the 20foot cabinet and cloth grille! I just want an amp mod software that has a lot of variables to mess with so that I can just find a tone I like. any ideas?

Good luck.

2 of the better ones that come to mind, are IZotope Thrash, and Nomad Factory Rock Amp Legends. While a lot better than the others I've heard, they're still far from the real thing and sound artificial.

They both have a lot of parameters to mess with though.

I guess I'm the other way, the Nomad Factory Rock Amp Legends and Izotope Trash are my two least favorites of the ones I have tried.

You may want to check into Native Instruments Guitar Amp Combo's. Its pretty simple and straight forward, limited effects, pretty decent modelers.

hmm, ok well let me put it this way, i have a college kid budget, so the best dynamic mic i have is a Sm57, and the best i have availiable is a mesa boogie with a peavy head. would I get better tones using the amp or getting a modeler?

revalver is another software. you choose the amps, of course, as well as mic placement on the speaker and all that. i had it installed, tried it a bit... but as they say... it all sounded fake.

so i discovered my ideal tone through the amp i had, and miced it. done it ever since. much much much better to do that in my opinion, even if you have a crappy amp. thats your tone!

These are the best I have heard. They are VST plugin's, so you need either a ASIO input or you need to record your track frist then run these.

They are very amazing sounding though. I have used all of the devices they simulate, and can say that these are VERY VERY VERY close to the real thing!

As I recall, they are sort of cpu hogs though. Watch out!

I second the Izotope Trash...lot's of parameters, amp & cab models, etc...It ain't gonna sound like your favorite record, but it is good for what it is, and I don't think you're trying to achieve that anyways. It runs about $100
