Returned from the dead
Hello everyone! :p

im wanting to plug my guitar into my V-Amp pro so i can use the stereo outs. what im wanting to do it bypass the preamp section and send one signal to my miked up amp and DI the other dry signal.

but i read somewhere that the converters in the pods and v amps are crap. so if i were to use the bypassed v amp would it degrade my tone or signal any?

thanks in advance if anyone can answer this for me. :D

I'm guessing (pretty sure) that no matter how you program it, the signal at the outputs have been processed; any type of processing is going to degrade the signal somewhat, no matter how good the quality of electronics. You would have to look at a block diagram of its innards to see if the guitar signal is always converted to digital and then re-converted.

What I would do is "Y" out the signal after a buffering device, which will give the signal enough "strength" (current) to be split Any pedal that is not "true bypass" will buffer the signal even when the effect is off. For example - guitar into a 7 band eq pedal (like a Boss or Danelectro), then you can literally use a "Y" cable from the output to feed your 2 targets. Yes, a buffering pedal will also degrade the signal somewhat, but my guess is that it will far less "degraded" than using a modeler, since it has definitely not been converted to digital, and then re-converted back to analog. I use that same principle to feed a tuner on my practice pedal board, except instead of using a Y cable, I added another output jack to a pedal.

i use a dunlop original crybaby, i looked it up and im not sure if it used true bypass or not but i tried the y splitter and i got some bad hum from doing that.

anyone know if the crybaby is true bypass or not?

I seem to recall that the V-AMP is one of the few modelers that has a true (hardwire) bypass. Of course, bypass is bypass---if you're using an effect, your signal is being processed in the digital domain.

No they are not true bypass. I had to add a bypass switch to mine, it really does make a difference in your signal strength.
