Amp Miking

I'm thinking about getting a SM-57, but I'm wondering if it will complement my sound. I'll be miking my 30w amp. The sound I'm after is like that found in the attached mp3 clip. Can anyone help me figure out how the guitars in the attached clip are miked, and what mics are used to mike the guitar amps - I love this sound....

that sounds like an old television recording. awesome band, tom verlaine is the man. anyways, yeah for your sound ,it depends on your amp. but what you could do is get the sm-57 put it on the grill near a speaker then put a mic (another sm-57 would do, but i like using large diaphragm mics for this) about 2-3 feet away for a nice cab sound. anyways, that will get you a nice sound, but then you will need to tweak the mix and get the settings on your amp right before you can work with your tone. it just takes time and patience. cheers

Television are awesome, but I think that tune is from sonic youth's new album.

Anyway, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread as I'm looking for a mic solution at the moment too, and if it sounds as good as that clip I'll be pretty happy.
