I have a 100w Ampeg Vl-100h head and recently when playing, it will fade out and swell back up to the original volume. It does this completely at random. I opened it up and all the wires look connected and solid. It had done this once before going completely out. That time there was a harness that had actually melted itself on one end. We ended up filing down the harness and hardwired it by soldering the wire to the post.
Any ideas on what it could bethis time???????
Thanks...

Zinc-

This is the other problem I had with my Ampeg Tri-Axis amp. I took it to the guy who works on my Fender and Vox amps and he messed with it but it didn't fix the problem. He has worked on amps for years and couldnt find it on this one. I have replaced the tubes and it still did the same thing.

Good luck. If you fix it, let me know how you did it, cause it seems like no on e else has a clue.

The amp is actually a vl-1002 (not 100h) oops. Anyways, no big deal.

I replaced the power tubes about 6 months ago with Groove tubes(those suck I need to change them anyway). Could it be the preamp tubes? I think there are 7 12ax7s. How can I tell if I need to change any of the tubes?

Thanks
