Amp hum/buzz

I've got a Vox pathfinder 15 and I want to close mic it but the mic picks up too much hum from the amp. Is this normal and if so is there a way round it? I can move the mic away but then i have to turn the amp up anyway to get the same level, meaning more hum :S Do I just have a dodgy amp!?

Make sure the amp and guitar are grounded correctly. Does the amp hum when the volume is down? Does the hum get lower when you touch the guitar strings?

Yeah there is less when I touch the strings...any easy way round it?

Mine sometimes hums but its usually from something in the room like lights, or my computer
