I have decided to purchase the YSM-1 monitors. Can I just hook them up to my Technics stereo amp, or am I going to have to fork over more cash for an amp to drive the monitors?

Or to ask it in another way, how much will the sound quality be comprimised (if at all) by hooking up the monitors in this fashion?

If you bypass all the eq controls and dont use loudness or bass boost(or anything that will color the sound). you may be ok

Right now the hafler and alesis amps have a low enough price to get into without breaking you.

also try the local high end shop for amps(sometimes you can buy used ones there)

Pawn shops are also good sorces for amps.

Yo CyRocker:

Your Yorkvilles will sound good with almost any type of amp. However, if you use an amp like the Yamaha integrated amp I use, there is a push button that bypasses the amp and you get the "pure through" sound -- no amp coloration.

I use the Yamaha integrated amp to run my studio because it plugs in my two tapes decks, either direction, CD, AUx plugs, Am/
fm, and my phono when I need it.

If you want to know the model number, let me know and I'll post it.
