I have this older solid state Peavey Musician Amp from maybe the early (80's?) im not quite sure. I don't use it that often but the other day I decided to power it up and mess around on it. When I flipped the switch it blew a fuse. Now everytime i put a new fuse in and power it up, it blows the fuse. I was just wondering if there were any reasons that this might be happening? I don't use it that much so i don't really feel like paying money to have it worked on, if its something i can possibly repair. I know that this question is probably like asking why did my car break down, and there can be a million reasons. I just figured someone has encountered this problem at some point. Thanks for any advise or comments.

sounds familiar

Whether or not its the same who knows. I Owned a Peavey Renown. Awesome combo amp. It was 2nd hand buy for me, lasted a few months, then the power supply went. Kept blowing fuses, drove me crazy being it was my only amp. Took it to neighborhood music repair shop and the guy there found the problem lickity split, power supply, a quick switch and I was off and running till I sold the damn thing. Some tell tale signs are heavy discoloration on the power supply, crusty shit, does it get crazy hot really fast. If you got the skills get in there with a multi meter and check the voltage, although you should research what the proper voltage should be first, hope this helps...

could be onto something

Hmm you might be on to something. I had it worked on years ago and the power supply was one of the things they replaced. I guess its possible that its gone bad again. Its been about 8 years since i had work done.

i had an old gibson amp when i was a teenager (my 1st amp) and it started doing the same thing, so, i put a piece of tin foil around the fuse and turned it back on....my transformer burnt up..smoked up the whole house.

thanks

Thanks Jimistone but I don't think im gonna try that haha.
