Amp bleed into drum mics?

I'm very new to recording and I'm assuming my question doesn't deserve to grace the presense of this forum but I need to know the answer.

When you're recording are you supposed to have the amps on so that the musicians can hear them? And if so wouldn't that bleed hardcore into the mics recording the drums?

I'm really confused as to what to do. As I said I'm new to this and I apalogize for my question but I haven't found the asnwer for it anywhere.

or build iso boxes.....

or do the guitars direct while doing the drums and then overdub the amps after.......

I've always done it with headphones. The guitar player and drummer have headphones on w/ the guitar running through it and maybe a click track?

use headphones if tracking 'live' w/guitar/bass/etc.

I put the drummer in a room by himself and any amps in a seperate room and ALWAYS have the bass go direct. No bleed this way. If the amps have to be in the room with the drums (for queing purposes) I throw a couple of moving blankets over the for isolation and that works OK.

what's an iso box? is it good enough to record in the same room?
