Americana or Folk-Punk?

A little "harsh," but I like it. "Folk Punk" pretty much nails it.

No, "harsh" musically. But that would be in keeping with the sub-genre, so don't sweat it.

The vocals are way too loud. There's absolutely no dynamic range or space in this mix. It's very two dimensional. It's loud but not big, you know what I mean? It sounds like a headphone mix. It's like an incomplete sandwich. A backing track of music with vocals smashed on top. I'd say start over. Drop the vox like 3 db and try again.

Thanks Greg

levels/dynamic range accepted, do you think it needs more verb to gel it togther?

Burt

Vox too loud. Sounds like alt country to me. I don't hear anything punk rock about it.

Thanks for the comments

I re-mixed and I think I managed to claw back some dynamic range and settled the vocals in a bit lower.

Very interested to get feedback on progress

Cheers

Reminds me a little of CowPunk - what was that fellow's name?
This mix sounds pretty good.
there was an entire subgenre of this style in the late 80's - sometimes a little more aggressive like The Johnnys, Scott Goddard etc and sometimes more acoustic like the Violent Femmes.
Enjoyable stuff.

Thanks Ray

I did have a little bit of the Pogues in the back of my head as well - though much less folk instrumentation.
