ok here is the deal. im trying to TRACK into ACID 3.0 but something isnt right. i have the files on my 5400 rpm hard drive so this MIGHT be the problem. however hear me out first.

1.when i play back 12 or more stereo tracks the audio skips, cracks, jitters, fallsout you name it it does it.

2. when i apply FX to the tracks more fall out, jitter, cracks etc etc

3. i changed the latencey on the card and this didnt help.

now to solve this problem can i

1.UPGRADE CPU AND MOTHER BOARD? IF SO WHAT ARE SOME I CAN USE?

2. can i load the tracks and save em on my 7200 rpm drive to increase performence?

once again here are the specs.

windows 98
amd-k6 475 mhz
512 mb ram
5400 maxtor
7200 maxtor
dio 2448 sound card
acid 3

thankyou for all the help and enron stocks. please dont mind my caps. im not yelling. have a blessed day or night.

Try running the files from your faster disk -
make sure you have the latest mobo drivers, vid drivers et all -

If you're running 12 stereo files with the k6, you're doing pretty good... I was able to run about 16 (never needed more than that) with my k6 2-350 with a few effects though, so do some research on optimizing your system.

with a name like "jitteringjim" you must shake and jitter like my audio...lol.....jk.

i dumped the tracks to the 7200 hard drive. the songs open a lot quicker. i can play back like 16 stereo tracks now. however..........i cant drop the playback buffer in the program below 0.25ms at 24 its skips and stalls. 25 its clean. fx??????? NOPE. fx will make it drag and make the audio click and pop. when playing back the tracks the system resourses are at 86%. whem i am not running anything its at 96%. by "mobo drivers" do you mean motherboard drivers? im not a technical guru when it comes to computers so a lot of the terms i hear are new. i will check the amd site and see what they have.

i hit pricewatch.com and they have combos for cheap. the thing is i dont know what is or isnt compatible. all i know is that i have 4 slots to install ram and several pci slots. how do i check my chip set? open it up or can i look in the bios etc etc?????

thank 2 anyone who helps.

You'd do better to increase you playback buffers - I know everybody wants low latency, but with a k6-2 - you'll get better better results with FX and more track playback with larger buffers.

And yes, I meant motherboard drivers. :)

Good luck.

im going to try that . the audio wont "drift" and fall out of sync will it? i dont care if i cant add the fx and have it change as soon as i move the slider of the fx. all i want is for the stuff to playback,on time with the ability to add fx and plug ins.

so motherboard drivers? man i didnt know such a thing existed. you learn something new everyday. i will hit google and see what i can find. thanks jittering jim.
