AMD or intel

I know a proffessionnal recording engineer who told me that intel is better than athlon audiowise, cos of the chipsets or something. Now I'm getting a pentium 4 with hyper threading that seems very fast. Why do so many people take amd over intel for recording? I know athlon can handle recording but he said that intel gives u better performance for recording.
