Right now I have a modest setup for multitrack into my computer. I am currently in search of some tips as to what direction to go in as far as expanding my rig. Any suggestions/tips??

So here's my setup. I run all of my instruments, mics, and equipment into my Soundcraft EPM 6 mixer. I am primarily only using the mixer for the preamps & gain control for signal going out. From here, I am using its inserts to run direct (1/4 in to RCA snake) into my M-Audio Delta 1010LT soundcard. This gives me 6 individual RCA channels in as well as 2 XLR ins built into the soundcard, for a total of 8 simultaneous tracks into my computer.
I use REAPER for recording, which can run "rewire" with REASON 4 for my MIDI devices ofcourse. All of my mixing/effects are added in REAPER with plugins.

As far as equipment, my mics are a bit bare bones right now:rolleyes:.
I use the MXL 990 and 991 pair usually for drum overheads or vocals, SM 57 for guitar amps and kick drum, and also have a couple cheap samson vocal mics.

So I guess my question is what should my next main improvement be? New/better mics? Better mixer? etc..
Not quite sure, myself. Advice?

Ya a few better microphones in your mic locker wouldn't hurt.
What are you using to monitor with? for you didn't mention that.

Yeah. I just don't know whether to buy specific tailored mics for each instrument, or just pick up a few more 57's.

I monitor with a pair Behringer TRUTH B2031A's

Well you record the vocal separately right?
Then a few good suggestions on some of them would be a MXL V67g about $88. big bang for the buck or a Shure SM7b about $350.
Noticed you didn't have a good kick microphone a Shure beta 52 is not bad.
You can find the the more expensive ones used on ebay or craigs list.

What kind of room are you recording/mixing in? Dealing with the acoustics will probably do a hell of a lot more than changing some budget mics for slightly dearer budget mics, and may well be cheaper too! :D

Agreed! Deal with the acoustics and THEN decide if you need to buy better equipment. I think you'll be surprised. :)
