i have studiophile bx5 monitors and for some reason they sound muffled. im running the audio out of a presonsus firepod then into a mixer for volume control. do i need to put an eq on it or are the monitors just pieces of sh**?

I think the Dewd is color blind as he cant tell the dif between red and green.

Don't you agree that M-Audio monitors are not good/great monitors ?
As far as me being color blind, no...not at all. But on this board there are some members than can't accept someone telling the truth sometimes.

Good for you then dude. At least, there is someone who cares about that

Those monitors are shite.

do you honestly believe that that company would sell a pair of monitors....not one but TWO...that are seriously malfunctioning? You are too quick to blame the gear. I would agree that compared to monitors that are about 5x the price they might not be as "clear"; but the difference should not sound like a malfunction; let's be realistic here. I would try taking the mixer out of the chain to see if that improves things.

You NEVER know with stuff made in China
Maybe it's just the monitor's own sound that's dull ?

i tried taking the mixer out of the line and it still sounds the same. i guess they are just shitty monitors.

well, I don't want to entirely discount either of these notions, but I have had a pair of BX8's for a few years now and I would call them anything but "dull". I have run all sorts of things into them, too: balanced, unbalanced, homemade crap, digital, analog....

so first I would ask the question, what are you comparing them to?

and second, how subtle are we talking here? Obviously compared to a pair of Genelecs they are going to sound slightly muffled; but if that is what you are getting at I doubt you would be posting at all. Hell, I don't know; maybe their QC went downhill when they were bought by digidesign.

As far as them not being "good' or "great" monitors that is all a matter of subjective opinion. I have compared them to many major names and I thought they were very well rounded and well exceeded most of the other offerings.

Sometimes people who are new to recording expect their monitors to sound "better" or at least "as good as" their hi fi home stereo speakers. They do not realize that the purpose of a good studio monitor is to reproduce everything as flat as possible, where home hi fi speakers are made to emphisize certain frequncies. Without this emphasis, one COULD think that monitors sound dull. In fact, the flatter the sound, the better the monitor. I wonder if the original poster realizes this?

Bx5's are not fantastic, but they ARE good.

<In fact, the flatter the sound, the better the monitor. I wonder if the original poster realizes this?>

I do realize that, it seems to be more then what is supposed to happen. i may be wrong. ill have to get someone with knowledge about this subject to listen to them and have them give me an idea.

okay. its possible that they're just not your thing or aren't matching the music you are doing. like I said a lot of it is subjective opinion. They should probably sound at least as clear as a home stereo. If not, maybe you should trade them in or something. I honestly haven't heard the new ones. maybe they do suck?

I would maybe try using them with a different source and see what happens. Maybe you can play a CD through the mixer and avoid the firepod/PC just to see what happens.

still not there claims to have "shitty" monitors (albeit) in his opinion, but has yet failed to provide a description of the room, treated or otherwise, that he monitors within.

C'mon guys.....you know better than to have let that fact escape your attention.

'Zat close enough to the truth for you, cheeserock?

That's pretty ironic, there, Dud...I mean, that statement coming FROM you....hehehehe
I've yet to read one thing by you that doesn't make me worry for the future of the human race. And to make it worse, you always state your mal-informed, ignorant OPINIONS as FACTS. It's actually rather pathetic.

Well, I got news for you fellow Montrealer....
Your opinion is NO BETTER than mine...and this applies to anyone on this board.
Indeed, this board is an exchange of ideas and opinions, that's all it is.
But it seems that since I don't "fit in the pack", people say I'm ignorant and that I don't know shite.
You should stop thinking you are a GOD around here and have the right to judge people like you do.

i dont wanna judge the music, but maybe its the mix. just a shot in the dark so dont get offended. if thats not the case, then just call me a stupid muthafucka.
