RAMI

Guest
I figured I might as well start mixing this. I started a new song which I posted the instrumental tracks to in another thread, and I put this aside.

So, I did a quick mix. I'm not sure about the guitar tones. I still can't decide if I want a heavy "rock" sound on them, or more of a dirty punkier sound. Hopefully other people's ears will help me out.

Any other mix suggestions are, as always, appreciated.

AM I CRAZY (rough)

Sounds really good RAMI. The rhythm guitar is a just tad too loud for me but that's my own personal preference. I like the guitar tone a lot, I think it fits the song well.

Great performance and a very nice arrangement. Nice and tight as always.

The song reminds me of something else but I can't put my finger on it......no matter though.

Thanx a lot Clean.

I can turn down the guitars, no problem. Anything that makes drums seem louder is ok with me. :D

Actually, the main riff reminds me of something too. It's one of those riffs that, when it popped into my head, I started asking myself who I'm accidentally ripping off. But I can't find anything. In my research, the closest I could find was a Marylin Manson tune that has the same type of riff, but in a different timing.

Thanx for the comments brother.

Not a problem. It's definitely a catchy tune.....I've been singing and humming it since I stopped the mp3. :laughings: So it's doing what a song is supposed to do.

I listened 3 times, 2 on my monitors, loud and low and then on some old Kenwood hifi speakers. Translates well all round. There was just a few places the vocals dipped behind that riff, at volume.

Going to have to listen again as it's stuck in my brain now :D

hmmmm i cant put my finger on it... but it doesnt sound as bright or punchy as your mixes normally sound.

I would add some kick drum and add some more crack to the snare.. .which makes me think maybe the mix needs more OH?

Im not sure, it just sounds a bit muddy which is unusual for one of your mixes

Sounded real good. I'll offer suggestions anyway. :)

I thought the vocal and guitars were fighting in the first and last verses and in the choruses. Just a bit. But to my ear the vocal is getting covered a bit here and there.

Personal preference - but I'd like a more "snarey" snare sound.

Bass sounds cool.

I'd nudge up the guitar solo a db or two.

Thanx guys. I'll definitely look into a couple of things. I'll bring down the rythm guitars as suggested earlier. That's probably (hopefully) what's burying the vocals at times. Not sure what to do with the snare. It's funny how we hear our own songs differently than others hearing them for the first time. To my ears, that snare almost sounds like a piccolo to me, I actually thought it had too much pop. But I like the fact that you both mentioned it. I'll see if I could "snare" it up a bit more.

Really apreciate the help so far.

Just tweaked a few things and put up a new version, same link above.

Just mentioning it in case anyone that already posted listens again and wonders if their ears are playing games with them. :)

Rythm section cook.
Vocals are free from crowding.
Lovely harmonies.
The riff is itchily notdissimilar to etc... but stands alone as it's merely similar.

In response to the snare sound, I like the sound you stuck with. Just sounds more rock n roll compared to a brighter snare sound.
A great, catchy mix. Didn't get a chance to listen to the original that you posted up, but I know I also can pick out each vocal and instrument with ease in this version. Doesn't seem to be any crowding or fighting at all to my ears.

LOVE the harmonies, Rami.

I don't mind the sound of snare ... but for some reason, it pokes out in the mix and is somewhat distracting. It shouldn't be so noteworthy, I'd think.

Guitars sound great ... I like the tones employed.

Other than the snare over calling attention to itself, the rest of the mix is solid.

Thanx a lot ray. I know what you mean about the riff. It's pretty generic, so it's almost like "am I really the first one to come with this?". :)

Thanx a lot K. I was fiddling with the mix as I read your post, so I did bring the snare down a tad. Thank a lot for that, it's much appreciated. :)

Man...really good song and groove rami. Great arrangement and very clean tracking too. I think its a great rough mix. I think it's plenty bright enough. The only suggestion I will make is that the snare is a bit hot in the mix. I'm not sure I love the snare sound I'm thinking it should be tuned a bit lower for my personal taste on this style of rock...but it's hard to make this determination without bringing the snare level down a bit so it sits better in the overall mix. If you decide to go heavier in the guitar sound as you mentioned in the initial post I'm sure the snare would sound better tuned to a lower pitch. I'm just knit picking' here though man...all in all I think it's a great recording!

Sounds pretty damn good to me. I don't feel anything is fighting for space. Love the harmonies.

Yeah man, sounds really good to me..I like that kinda lurching rthym groove in the intro/verses...I always think your vocals are really good, would like to maybe hear the backing harmonies just a little more prominent as they are so good .....I would be happy with a mix like this when I finish when of my things :p..... great job !

Still, huh? No problem. I'm going to to take a fresh listen later today and probably end up agreeing with you. I did bring it down but maybe not enough.

Thanx a lot Queep. I'll check out those bax later. Maybe bringing the snare down will help bring them out, but I have room to turn them up too if needed.

Thanx a lot guys!
