I need about three mic stands, but I really have no money for them. Is there any alternatives? Maybe a way to make some decent homemade ones?

Any help is apreciated!

I don't know if this helps, and probably isn't the best for your equipment, but we used to attached them to those tall lamps, using pull ties and/or tape. For the kick drum, a backpack on top of a shoe case. haha. Maybe you could build them out of PVC pipes, but once you start buying materials, you probably won't save a whole lot, since mic stands are about 30 dollars.

haha, maybe I could just buy 1 or 2, Im sure I could at least rig up the bass drum. thanks!

Hmm, yes, telekenesis, why didnt I think of that!

yeah but then you get the brain itches. those suck, it cant fit my finger up my nose far enough to scratch it. the doctor use a long drill once, and i cant stop drooling since, he called it a la-bot-omy or something, i think it's latin.

dont forget = duct tape it can be a mic stand or a cymbal bag or a drum stick (a little soft) or etc.....

(but really you can get cheap mic stands for $15-20)

This would probably cost more than a normal mic stand, but maybe you have these things laying around:
cymbal stand / multiclamp / boom arm or gooseneck.

Mate, buy some mic stands. I mean it, you'll save yourself so much hassle.

For the past year I've been living on a real shoestring budget whilst trying to get my humble studio going. I've had mics hanging from light sockets, gaffa taped to clothes rails, propped on top of books...you get the picture. Stuff always sounded crap & I could never get them in the right position.

So I bought some stands.

Buy one at a time...set aside the dough somehow.

I built two a while back, the total cost was like $4 or something and they work well for cabs and kick drums. Anyways, get a 2x6 and cut it up, two about a foot long and two about 8 inches long. Buy two bolts that will screw into your microphone clip. Drill out a hole slightly smaller than the bolt and hammer it through so it is very snug. Then hammer in the head of the bolt into the bottom piece as much as you can (a chisel to deepen the hole would help here. Then, take four 2 1/2" screws and connect the two pieces of wood with the bigger piece on the bottom. I was classy and stained them. Although they're not adjustable up and down, they're hard to knock over, dirt cheap, and I still use them to this day. Hope this helps.

cheers,
scott

Mic stands can be gotten so cheaply, especially used, that this seems like an odd place to try saving money.

Yea, just donate some plasma and you'll have enough $$......unless you just went.

I have one of these, gets the job done for the most part, have one of your friends/band mates split the package with you: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...d-Mic-Stand-with-Fixed-Boom-10Pack?sku=450835

I have two of these, and what more can I say, they should last longer, hold positions better, they just down right feel solid, one of the above pictures is a guy using one for cymbals, that has to say something about them: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Tama-MS205-Boom-Mic-Stand?sku=450200

musicians friend sells 10 for 100$ so what im doing is buying them in baulk instead of separate since they r like 20-30 a piece regularly.

If you're so poor you can't afford a few 15-20 dollar stands, and so uncreative that you haven't figured out a way to improvise, well...

give up this little hobby of yours and go back to school.
