While recording last night at a friends studio our sax player bumped a mic stand and knocked it over.

The end result is that the mic is good but the shockmount broke into about 8 pieces.

We need to replace it ASAP but the direct replacement is about $90.

I don't mind spending the money but I hate to buy another piece of junk that will shatter like glass. There has to be something better.

Any ideas?

Seems to me that the shock mount did exactly what it is supposed to do. Like a motorcycle helmet, the helmet as destroyed and the head is OK. First, I would get some JB Weld and start glueing all those pieces back together. Next, I would stop hanging a perfectly good studio mic on a cheap mic stand. Spend the money on this instead:

No one will *ever* knock that sucker over, with anything.

As far as the shock mount goes, I don't know of an alternative for a square mic. Most shocks just won't fit it. The shock mount for a CAD e100 might work. The designation is e100SM, but I can't find a price on it. You'd have to check with CAD. Good luck.-Richie

can you glue it back together? I've done that with one or two fractures on my AKG shockmounts - they work fine

Hopefully better late than never........

The shockmount for the Studio Projects B1 fits the AKG C414 perfectly. I've used it on both the 414B XLS and 414B-ULS.

I ended up buying the Studio Projects mount at Sweetwater for $19.95.

Thanks for the help guys.
