Alternative Software for beginner?

I bought an Mbox 2 pro a couple of years ago, because I wanted to do some vocal recordings, and it was on sale during the boxing week.

The software that came bundle with it is incompatible with Windows 7 and the updates from the website won't help.

The only other option is to upgrade the software, but it would require a full purchase of their new software and I don't have alot of money to invest further in a recording solution. Plus I never really got a hang of protools and I want something more simple.

What alternate software could I use with my Mbox 2 pro that would be least cost effective to no cost at all?

Thank you for anyone who can answer my questions.

Reaper is the 'Go To' Software for low price/real deal recording. Get it and go man.

I think last time I checked Reaper it was $40 but I think you get a 30 day or more trial

Audacity is free. -

Yeah but $40 is so worth it. Cost Effective, absolutely. You get so much more from Reaper and the program is TINY! only like 5MB or something ludicrous. And if you've installed any vst plugins with pro tools, then they will all just appear in Reaper. There's some info here on cost effective multitrack software which includes Reaper at the end of the page.
Hope the info helps.
