wondering what operating systems will work with cakewalk and/or fruityloops? is windows the only one? it seems so big and full of stuff i don't use or seem to need. do all you veteran recorder people use windows? i might get a new system and i was wondering what you thought about non-windows OS and their compatability and/or workability with recording software. thanks.

Most of the users in this board use Windows and a few use Mac OS. Cakewalk and Fruityloops are Windows apps.

If these apps seem to much for you look into N-track.
A lot of folks here swear by it.

Its popular belief that Maco's are more stable with recording software but WIN is quickly improving. There is more available for the WIN platform since this is the majority being used.
Also Linux is used by some but I cant say how it performs.
Most recording software is very intimidating at first, you have to get used to it and soon realize that you will use a lot of the applications eventually.

Pretty much it comes down to what software you want to run and how much money you want to spend. Generally you will end up spending a little more to go with a Mac.

Sonic Foundry, Cakewalk or Fruity, as eyeslikefire said are Windows only. Digital Performer and Logic are Mac only. Most of the other bigger name software are cross-platform (Windows/Mac).

There are some Linux music creation programs, but from what I've gathered aren't as sophisticated as the ones on the big 2 OS's.

Incorrect...Logic is PC & Mac compatible with the exception of 6.0

Well, I mean technically you're right. But it's not like there will ever be any future Logic versions for Windows again. And soon you won't even be able to buy Logic for Windows except for maybe on E-bay, so pretty much Logic would be considered Mac-only software, no?

ok. windows it is.

thanks for the help. its just kinda frightening how microsoft is ruling the world. i thought i might escape. alas, i'm under their thumb. it doesn't matter that much, cause making music on my computer is one of the coolest things i've ever done. thanks and rock on music makers.
