I'm very new to the whole recording concept. I decided to get into it after i did the recording for an old band i was in with the basic knowledge I learned from people I talked to, and I was very pleased with the outcome. I just bought a Behringer ub1222 mixer and connected it to my sound card through the mic port. I have no idea what kind of sound card it is, and I plan on getting a USB interface. I want to make this the best I can, so any tips would help.
Also, I'm using shitty mics, but I dont have a whole lot of money. Any ideas for a few good dynamics, condensers and percusion mics for a reasonable price?

Studio Projects B1, Shure SM57/SM58, Oktava MK012, Shure Beta 52, AKG D112, Seinheiser MD421(a little more expensive, but worth it, IMHO),

Do you have a line in on that sound card? I would use that instead of the mic port until you can upgrade to the USB interface.

Blue Bear has some great articles that you should read. The thing that will make the most difference will be the instruments/voices etc.. and the skills of the engineer. The best part about the second one is that its free! There is a Public Mix Contest going on now which is great for practicing your mixing skills on, even if you don't submit your mix. Also, be sure to post your own mixes here on the MP3 Mixing Forums. Many people will be glad to critique your mixes accurately (and often bluntly!).

If you have any questions, just ask! :)
