Seeker of Rock

Let us be unburdened by that which has been ?
help a brotha out

Wild-Eyed Jim's version 1, which got re-mixed yesterday into version 2, and after comments and much tweaking, now we have version 3. Everyone here has been most helpful, but I need a little more. Version 3 should capture the essence of the first, but hopefully the drum panning issues are resolved. Thanks for the continued help. :)

I saw this post has been viewed a few times...no one has any comments or advice at this point? No outstanding issues? Thanks as always for your continued help. :) :) :)

Nice song, pretty nice guitar work on the lead.

Probably for me, the thing I was distracted by the most was the high hat...probably a little louder than I like and I'd also try quarter notes instead of 8th notes..... even use some open HH on the chorus.

All in all a pretty good mix, but my disclaimer is I'm at work listening on phones, so take my comments lightly...

nice work.

Is it just me, or everything still in the middle? Almost sounds like a psuedo stereo effect was put on the drum overheads?

The song really sounds good except for the panning issues.

How are the drums recorded?

I definitely get a stereo image..... NL5, you mentioned the drum overheads.... I thought we were listening to a drum machine.... am I wrong?

Blue Bear, thanks a million for the good advice on PM!

79 and NL5, drums were recorded on a DM Pro kit. I can adjust the levels and pans in the DM brain, but once LR out is recorded into the board, levels and pans are set. The only effective option I believe would be to re-record the tracks and set the levels. This may be something worth considering, but I'm not that great of a drummer and will likely spend several takes :( If it needs to be done, though, I may do it.

Drums should be straight down center now with the bass, vocals I think I set a hair right, rhythm guits at 10 and 2, lead about 1:30 or 2.

Thanks again for helping me on this one! :)

ooops...I was paying so much attention to the panning that I didn't catch the drum machine.

Without re-recording the drums, your kinda screwed on the drum panning it sounds like.

I am. You know what, though, I had what I felt was a nicely panned set, increasing pan increments on the DM Pro from left to right as you go around the kit to give a great stereo effect. Then, beginners tragedy happened(mind you this song was recorded two years ago except for beginning lead and rhythm #2 that happened recently)...I had just purchased this new Joe Meek Trak Pak and ran the DM Pro L-R outs into the single mono in via a 'Y' cable, then from the two ouputs into the board and lost my stereo drums that I had meticulously set up on one of the kits (in basically a 3 line DOS setup, mind you). Bummer. :( How did McCartney say it....oh, yeah la la la how life goes on. :) Oh well, I may re-record the drums at some point if I'm feeling daring enough. What the hell, I guess I need to learn how to play those damn things better anyway :D Thanks again for all the help you've given me NL5. The next tune I'm going to record that uses drum I am going take the hats down a notch in volume, run straight into the 488 to preserve the DM stereo, and change the snare from "paper head" to a maple or birch shell or something (the snare sample is kinda the 'pebble in my shoe'). Thanks again, man.

No problem...don't know that I was really any help tho...

I think the song is worth re-recording the drums.

Hey, I just had an idea - check your pm.
