ok --- thanks everyone for your help on the midi problem, but now heres the situation....

Keyboartd is hooked up to computer sound is coming through -- I start vegas try to record and nothing records.. why

Actually scratch that ----- I got it recording into vega --- but its got background static noise --- not alot ---but enough to drive me crazy

If your using a SoundBlaster that is probably the culprit. That's why people spend the big bucks on Delta Cards, preamps and mixers.

It shouldn't be enough to drive you crazy unless the signal level you are recording is too low. Or you are running it through the mic in and introducing distortion by preamping a signal that is already at line level.

First, make sure it's in the Line In, not the Mic In.

Then, you'll need to play with the levels. Turn the output from the keyboard up good and high. Go into the Windows mixer and make sure you have the Line In enabled for recording, and adjust the faders there. (You can leave this utility open in the background while you have Vegas running, so you can go back and forth from one to the other -- test record in Vegas, go back and adjust, etc.

Here's quick-and-dirty explanation on the Sonic Foundry website:

The Windows mixer is a very common source of confusion so I'll point you to a more thorough article on the Cakewalk website about it. (I know, you're using Vegas, but trust me).

It's a great card.. I have one myself...

But the point I was trying to make is, it's not your card that's the problem here. You can get good results with the Sound Blaster. You can also get noisy, bad results with the Delta 66 or any other card if you try to work with a signal that is too small.

Hey Al,

Thanks for the advice I played around with the controls for awhile and now it sounds good.....

Gec, that's definitely a good card man, IMO for home rec'ers like us dudes who don't have muhco mulla$ it's either that or the Audiophile 2496, which is a little bit cheaper. I did a bit of research on the two a while back and eventually went with the Audiophile as I had no need for the break out box/multi in/outs, got my trusty Mackie 1202 of dat.
