Threw this Jane's Addiction cover together very sloppily.
Recorded in 16-bit for faster processing; crappier quality.
Threw together some drum samples from a previous effort . . . had my buddy plug in his guitar and I my bass. We played, made a ton of mistakes, I said "fuck it, man, we only have 1.5 hours! Just play."
So anyway, I kinda' salvaged and pieced it with edits, very poorly, struggled my way through 2 1/2 layers of vocal track, mixed, and here's the result:
The main purpose I chose this one was because I've always wanted to see what could be done with this particular song when taken in a somewhat different direction. I'm thinking I may have butchered it, but it was fun nonetheless. I NEEDED MORE DAMN TIME ! ! !
If ya fucked up alot...it went WHOOSH!!! right past me.Sweet f-in cover JA kick ass!!You boys captured an awsome sound, just add crowd applause and bar room noises and tell everyone you played out and recorded it...or not.
Very sweet! What a great sound, recording, playing. The bass sound really hits me good. I love it and want it The vocals are done great too. Good job. This is a real clean recording and well mixed.
Interesting. I really wasn't expecting so much positive reaction. A very welcome surprize. Thanks so much for the comments.
I cut every corner I could in terms of audio fidelity in order to get it done quicker. Tracked everything at 16 bit, drum samples pieced together using ACID @ 16 bit. Did a lot of editing of the guitar parts -- just took bits and pieces of what I liked, repeating them throughout the song, and threw out what I didn't like. That saved a lot of "overdub time."
I'm particularly grateful for the comments on the bass playing, by the way.
This was very roughly put together. Very little audio perfectionism going on, but I just love the song and thoroughly enjoyed laying the tracks down. I guess that's what's important when you boil it all down. Very good exercise, Vox!
Never having heard this PARTICULAR Jane's song, I'd have to guess the original vox were another octave higher
But the multiple overdubbed vocals are definitely a Jane's thing.
Cool drums... very nice recording. Another great 90 minute recording... how in THEE hell did you get the drum track done that fast? Do you have drum pads? No WAY did you manage to do that sequencing each drum by hand.
Keith, I'd hazard a guess that since you're such a "controversial" character on this bbs, and have probably pissed off your share (x10 ) of bbs members, you wouldn't probably get a rating for this. Screw that. Have your 5. Well deserved. This goes on the next CD-R. Thanks for that
I'm an ACID (Sonic Foundry) freak. And not that kind of Acid . . . I had a bunch of samples I made from a previous session that I particularly liked, and thought would work for that song, which they did. It was easily the quickest/easiest track to do -- as I had the origingal song lined up with it and just mapped out how many times through the verse, chorus, etc. With the exception of one section, it's a pretty repretitive song, and if you listen, you'll notice the same parts repeating themselves at different points. It's all looped. Pretty convincing loops, but still loops.
The part that took the longest was finding the good parts of the guitar track, sampling those and piecing them in with it all. I looped some of those, too. I admit I never would have gotten it done in time if we would have just played it straight through untill we got a usable take.

Very nice bass work man. Funky without losing the groove. And a nice drum line.....in fact, the whole things excellent considering it's a 1.5. Now I know I've got to get that song together for you to do bass. I'm a gonna be PMing ya'. er....ah....well; that didn't sound right.
He pisses people off . . . . he stirs shit up. He's mostly opinionating and/or annoying.
But damn, that white boy sure can play the bass. (and he can sorta' sing)
And he knows good music. For those not familiar, you are now required to acquaint yourselves with Ritual De La Habitual. Until that time, you are not allowed to criticize any of the annoying shit I say. (or the crappy songs I post)
Your funny, cat! I like this tune, never heard it before. Its really open and wide chord spreads on the instrument/vox harmony, kinda gives me that howe and squire feeling in the back trak too, wide loop but always back to the center. I wike it.
