Alpha Installation - Windows 7

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Over anxious I plugged the Alpha in and got a message that drivers were installed for an unknown device. I then ran the 2.7 driver installer and it didn't do right. I then ran the CD that came with the Alpha. The device never shows up in control panel. I have removed the drivers and software, restarted the PC, reinstalled the driver, then connected the Alpha. Still no luck. I must have really made a mess of this. I have really done everything I can think of. Do I need to delete something from the registry?

I am really stuck.
 
Do NOT try hacking the registry!
You can download the app Ccleaner and run the registry cleaner in that. If you save all it finds you can then run "fix" and it will do no harm in my experience.

Your mistake was to connect the Alpha in the first instance, most usb audio device should have all the software in place before plugging in. Your best bet IMHO is to run Restore to a time before you ran anything to do with the AI. Then follow the book meticulously!

Once you have things are up and doing you might then find you have a level problem in that things are noisy and the system far too sensitive. If so, come back, we talk.

Unfortunately I don't have a backup to use. I tried uninstalling the drivers and programs, restarting the PC with the Alpha NOT connected, installing them again, then connecting the Alpha. Still not recognized. I took the unknown USB device and changed the driver to the 2.7 one, but got an error that it couldn't start.

There must be some way to get past this.

if you got the right drivers for win7 then plug the thing into another usb port on its own (they split into 2`s) ... no hubs,direct in

Restore does not depend on you having made a backup. Go>Start>search (bttm left) enter "restore" and follow the instructions. Hopefully you will find a Restore point from before the first installation.

If still no joy try installing the device on another machine if you can.

Thanks for the help. Restore didn't want to work. It said there was a file it couldn't access, and to disable the anti-virus. I did with the same result. So this awesome PC is assembled won't do what I wanted. I had another PC laying around, and it all works. I'd still like to get it on the other machine. Oh well.
 
I haven't a clue what is going wrong with your install. I installed two different Alpha's on two of my W7 64 PC's. Never had an issue.

Maybe trying the CC Cleaner might find something wonky in the registry. Honestly this is probably beyond where my advice can be helpful. It should just work.

Was the file it couldn't access named? If so put it in Google and you might find a fix. The only other alternative that I can see is to do a full "Recovery". You should have a Recovery partition on the C drive and in fact a set of Recovery DVDs. This will set the PC to day one condition and means you will have to re install all the software extra to W7. Fair amount of work (1/2 dayish) but then if you are having this trouble with a simple AI I bet other things will crop up in th future.

BTW are you using Msoft Security Essentials for anti-V? If not, I suggest you do and get rid of any others.
