Allright, a cautionary tale-type song - folky, I guess.

This shaggy-dog type song is this long-time lurkers latest humble submission.

Recently remixed the song with all sorts of fancy things - silly backing vocals, panning, and other sorts of fancy features, like compression and attempts at mastering.

So, keeping in mind my minimalist equipment, I ask people to try listening to this if they want.

Uniform - silly mix

Rode NT1 mic,
Radio Shack/Sure dynamic mics,
Bheringer mixer,
cheapo guitar,
cheapo slide part on dobro,
Native Instruments B4 organ (love using the fast/slow rotator effect!)
Soundfont Bass and Drums, but really tried to mix them down so they sound acceptable.

Cooledit Pro for tracking,
N-Tracks for mixing,
Soundengine for mastering

Song is a bit too long, may chop off last verse.
Hope it isn't boring to listen to - tried to keep it subtly musically interesting!

yo eric I gave it a listen...........

It made me laugh...I hate uniforms dag nabbit! I actually thought that the layout of the song was good, not too boring at all......I'm no mixing expert, but I would like to here the drums a little more even though they are soundfonts(on my stereo, I could barely make them out).........Artistically speaking, I think sometimes in "silly" type songs like this drum machines actually add to the effect that I think you are going for....

I agree. It's both humorous and gentle in its delivery. Louder drums would definitely add to the playfullness, I think. Also, the lyrics are unique, yet the vocal hovers b/t speaking and singing too much. I think you should annunciate less and really get into those words.

Good solid effort!

Thanx for the kind comments..

I have a slight remix here, with new vocals that attempts to adress the issues that you raised, gmiller. (didn't you die over the english channel in 1944?)

Tried to have parts that were more spoken, some more sung.
Hopefully the story part is more clear and listenable.

I like the idea of making the drum track outright drum-machine like, maybe with a trance-hop type feel, al a Portishead? Would need to redo the bass, too, I suppose.

This is just a slight remix with new vocals, so listen if it interests you.

Should there maybe a few branches of the MP3 clinic, one for one-man and a computer bands, and one for more complete studio band recordings with tons of equipment?

:D

I agree about the earlier comments on the vocals. and watch the timing there too;)
