Anyone have any comments on this thing?

I'm thinking about buying one to use for some Dub/reggae/live hiphop production.

Any other consoles people could recommend that are similar in features and price range?

Thanks

Never used a System 8, but I have a GL2200 - the 32 track model - and I really like it. There's actually nothing bad I can say about it - unlike the dozen or so other boards I have owned. So if it shares any internals or designs or whatever with the GL2200....you won't be disappointed.

Check this link out - There's a formal review, specs, diagrams, and a billion or so user reviews of the system 8 that have been written over the last 4 years:

Hope that helps!

The system 8 is quite a different board than a GL2200. The system 8 is a much older design. Personally, I think the system 8 has a richer warmer sound, more dimensional. At the same time though it also seems a little noisier so there is a bit of a trade off. The system 8 only has 3 aux sends if I remember right, but 8 busses and 8 tape returns. The system 8 is also larger with wider channels, better faders, and is much easier to work on. The GL series though offers more conventional options. I believe the system 8 did have a semi proper control room section though. It has been years since I had mine so I may not be remembering everything correctly.
