I have an Allen and Heath MixWiz16:2DX and for a while I have noticed that it has had a fairly nasty hum to it. With the gain all the way down and the faders up to around -10 dB, my meter starts to show some noise (-30 dB) and it's really noticable. I know it's coming from my mixer because I've routed my speaker cables directly to my power amp and there is no hum at all. Has anybody ever had a similar problem or have an suggestions on what to do?? I would bypass my mixer completely but then I come into the problem of headphones and indivual mixes.

Is it in just the left channel? Or in both? The Mix Wiz's (especially the earlier runs) tended to have a ribbon cable problem that was connected to the swiveling backplate. i would call your nearest A&H dealer and get the number for a tech, or even try contacting A&H direct. Most likely it is a problem they have dealt with before and can probably tell you exactly what needs to happen:) Good Luck:)

i own one and have had no problems, sounds like yours needs a slight repair.

They don't ALL have problems. We had one at our shop for about a year and a half before it happened. It's not a problem that usually shows up out of the box. Its more of a design oversight that allows the problem to happen later. This won't happen to every Mix Wiz, but the possibility is there.

Just to be clear, my post was in no way intended to be or sound anti Allen Heath. I currently have and constantly use 7 Allen heath consoles ranging from the old System 8, to the Mix Wiz, to a full 52 input ML5000. They aren't the greatest consoles out there, but are Solid performers, and very cost effective when you compare price to features. However, the Allen Heath's are slowly dissapearing as we get more Midas consoles:D

I have an old A&H Saber 24/16/2 circa. 1987 and I've always found it to be a quiet console with good pre amps and a very warm EQ. Wouldn't part with it for love nor money

The Saber is one that I consider to be an exception to the rule. I actually like the sound of the system 8 as well:D And even the sigma's.
