Looking for feedback. This song was a particular challenge for me. I'm a keyboard player by training, but this song is me on everypart, with no keyboards, no samples, no drum machines (okay, okay, there is one triangle hit in the song that is a sample - sue me).

I know there are some timing issues with the drums, but otherwise I'd like to know if I successfully meshed together a good groove, or just created a chaotic mess.

Thanks,

Todzilla

I had a look around your site. You are a very creative man! I like your bed. I like your cartoons too. But I like your bed most.

Unfortunately, I really, really, really enjoy chaotic messes - and I found that there was a single triangle hit in that song that acted as a kind of lynch-pin (and ruined the whole thing for me) :P

I think you know it's good :) Great voice, nice mix. Even a few da-da-das for good measure :)

I think you must be some sort of hippy ....

I am a sort of hippy too - but not as creative.

I listened to a few more of your songs, and liked all I heard. Good stuff :) Actually, I'm green with envy.

I think I may have found the second half of Sanity Won, by the way. It asked me not to tell you its whereabouts (I don't know what you did to it, but it really doesn't want to come home - sorry).

This was one of the best arrangements I've heard in this forum. There's so many great musical parts combined to form an interesting song. It's complex but never intimidating, it's easy to enjoy. Sophisticated yet simple. You introduce each part gradually, continually providing new sounds and musical ideas to the listener. The harmonies are well thought out.
Everything is executed well - I have no nits on the performance/recording at all...

:) :D :) :D

Freddy, you are a riot. Yes, the bed is nice, the crowning achievement with it, of course, is emerging from the project with 10 fingers (always a bonus). The other half of Sanity Won is lost to the vagaries of magnetic flux. Alas. Too bad, as it had a cool bridge with the lyrics:

The world's still round, and gravity's the master
Pound for pound, we can't pedal any faster
You peel away the plaster
We're still the same old bastards...

Hippie? Well, if Chief Information Officer for a local government makes me a hippie, then hell yes...

ido<yearofSputnik>,

Thanks for the kind words. Since I did each part in successive layers, I'm most interested in how well I achieved an organic whole. Does it sound like a band of Todds? or just an uncoordinated mess of disparate layers?

As you can tell, I'm not a very good drummer, bass player or guitarist, but I hope with all the takes I did and beers I drank in the process, I was able to cobble together something that rose above my limitations.

The funnest part may have been the chorus of whistles. My cheeks were loose mudflaps of pain after the 40th take.

Suh-weeeeet. :D As far as the 'band of Todds' thing goes IMHO you pulled it off nicely. As far as your estimation of your playing don't let it bother you. Many well coordinated simple parts will beat up a single great performance every time. My very best songs and covers are where I have kept the playing simple but the song complex. This is a great effort. ;)

Tod,

That's a damn good song, as good as any you'd here on the radio. I'd fade it out from "all around the town" (4:04) and end it by around 4:10. Well done.
