are layne staley's vocal tracks doubled or something?, i really like the sound of his singing but it seems like there is a little extra to it.

It sounds like mybe some harmony stuff going on or something between him and jerry cantrell or just him double tracked with the band mad season.

any insight to this?

a lot, and i mean a LOT of their stuff has layne and jerry singing harmonies - jerry usually holding it down on the lower end

and yea, there's a good chance the vox were double-tracked on top of that as well

sounds like both of them singing with more than just double tracks too in some parts. on one of the radio hits, rooster I think, he is doing some serious vibrato, and one one part of one section the doubled vibrato is slightly off timing wise, I'm sure it "sounded cool" so they left it that way. also it makes you realize exactly how accurate he is in the other sections when you don't notice it.

its doubled but its more about the harmony. i hear a 5th and 7th. that is the key to there sound.
