Davemania! Whats up man? Your right , I'm not suprised at all...I think we have the same taste/love for classic rock/punk bands from days past..gonna have to check out your station when I get home for your version...I think I remember you doing "Go To Hell" also? Thanks for your comments ...appreciate it!
Variaxman, not much! (Why the name change? ha.) Yo, we have the same taste in music and lots of overlap in our recordings. So true.
I did post a jam version of "Go to Hell", but I've never remixed "You Drive Me Nervous" to 'puter or posted it to the web. However, it's one of my favorite Alice songs. Do you think it's obscure? I always thought it was an outstanding track. I've always listened to that album a lot, & still do.
MY VERSION features the TR-606 programmed drum track that follow the breaks pretty well, with my characteristically mechanical and somewhat simplified bass & guitar riffs. (I used to know how/be good at programming entire songs on
the TR-606, but I've forgotten it all since then. Thank goodness for the cheat-card I've kept around). I had an original vocal track which was very subdued which stood for years, (as my early vocals were often timid or subdued mostly because I'd record in an apartment in the middle of the night). Years later I tried to revise the vocals and either never finished or was never totally happy with them. The high-gutteral Alice scream was something that I'm not sure I could pull off. (I'm no RaMI). Hence it's never made it even to CDr, much less to the web, all future/TBD. Production-wise, mine sounds nothing like yours or any post-2k recordings of any sort. Mine sounds like an 80s version done on a 1/2" 8-track. I always thought it was one of my "power tunes", but was overall below the threshold of what I'd normally showcase. I guess I was never happy with the original vocal track, & probably mostly embarrased about the "updated" vocal track. I don't think I can do the high screaming parts without breaking into falsetto,... which is TOTALLY WRONG for any Alice song! Must be ultra-crappy, huh? Haha. Believe it or not, of all the hundreds of productions or jamtapes I've ever posted, which is a lot, there are still a few tracks that have never been posted! This is one. I may revisit or redo this number some day. Enough about me. (heh).
YOUR VERSION: Overall, I like it a lot. It's a tremendous choice of songs. I think your bass and guitar riffs in the main body of the jam is a bit simplified vs. the original, but I think some of the "business" is really what drives the song on the original. Your vocals are really good, and have much improved. I think you have a characteristic sound of your voice which works for rock and punkish stuff. However, as per the original, I think your vocal delivery needs much more "urgency". All in all, a really fun track! Thanx again!!!
