Does anyone know who is making the RA series amps.............Alesis themselves or are they sourced from Asia?

Peace.............ChrisO

No idea who makes them, but I know they aren't considered to be very good at all....

Check out the Hafler P-series.......

Bruce

Thanks Bruce.

Unfortunately with the $ exchange rate as it is Haflers are out of the question at the moment. They sit at the top of my "want" list.

The Alesis are much more affordable here..........ah well, maybe an upgrade in the future.

I'd use the Samson Servo series over the Alesis RA amps anytime, if you're on a budget.

While they're by no means high-grade, they're much better than the Alesis for transient handling and overall sound quality.

Alesis no longer builds any products domestically!! All products are built in the low skilled market of CHINA!!! You know the same place were gumball toys are made.

I would imagine that many companies have broken ties with Alesis since it was them that were directly affected by the bankruptcy. Probably why we haven't seen the HD unit out yet..

I just got a Yorkville SR300 studio amp. It has great specs, and sounds great. I highly recommend this amp.

Guys, thanks for your advice and info.

Just to wind up this thread ( I think)......... Hafler are my ultimate goal when budget allows. Prices here in Aust are as follows;

Hafler P1500.......$1399
Yorkville SR3000..........$1299
Samson......haven't found them available here ...YET.
Alesis R150...........$699

So for the time being $ win out.

While I would agree with the prior suggestions of hafler as a first choice, then Samson as a second choice, I have four Alesis RA100's in my studio for 5.1 monitoring, and I can't really complain about the amps at all. At the time the RA100 came out, they had very good specs - very flat frequency response which we graphed with test equipment to verify for ourselves that its as good as we hoped for the money we paid.

The RA-100 at lower to mid volume levels is very flat - where it loses steam is at higher volume levels - i.e. its pumping out more power. This is when the frequency response tends to be noticably less flat. The way we compensated was to switch monitors, and purchase ones that require less wattage to produce a certain db level. We ended up with Event 20/20's which don't require a lot of power to sound good.

Now that Alesis has newer amps, RA150/250 and the like, I can't speak to the quality of those. I would recommend you go and listen at your dealer(s) and see if it floats your boat.

We're about to upgrade from the RA100 to a slew of Haflers - we need more power to drive our old Urei's, which just sit here unfortunately.
