Taking the slow road
Any opinions on these? I'm getting one used soon.

Started w/ the original Quadrasynth in 1993, then added the 'plus piano' and then the QS w/ the numbers. I see in MF catalog they're up to 8 something.

What pro's we may know use them? recordings?

haven't played the new "QS" series, but i did own the ORIGINAL Quadrasynth before "downsizing" to the S4 Plus module. i still use the S4 Plus quite a bit. it
is one of the mainstays of my little studio. most of the sounds a quite usuable and there are lots of interesting pads and strange synthy patches. the effects are very good. the keyboard action on the Quadrasynth i owned felt pretty nice, kind of a "weighted synth" feel. i would assume the current versions are similar. the expansion cards (Q-cards) are quite inexpensive ($99 or so) and offer "plug and play" access to Vintage Synth, Hip Hop, Orchestral and other dedicated sound sets. i have other synths in my studio, but i have been quite happy with my Alesis. cheers.

Wow, I'm in shock, I can't believe how good this thing sounds. I got it from a guy on ebay. for 2 hours I went thru the sounds and they were all great, very high quality, no noise, the keyboard is velocity and has after touch and real time adjutments of some parameters.

I never really had a pro keyboard like this it's awesome. there are 10 great piano sounds.

Is there some sound editing software I can get for this? (PC)

nothing's better than a satisfying gear purchase! congrats!! so,..which "version" did you end up with? cheers.

I own a QS6.1 but I haven't played it much. I'm getting back into it though. I am becoming a synth junkie and I want more tones.
I know the Q cards are out there but are there any "free" places to download patches? I'm especially after pads and strings.

Used gear rocks! I got the Quadrasyth Plus Piano. After reading about the original QS, at that giant gear site, I made sure I got the second version, at least. It's 2.0, I guess. They said the original had a difficult o/s and stuff. Plus, i really needed piano.

I was just looking for a piano module. I was going to get a controller. Then after research I saw that the Alesis QS (after the first one) included great piano, according to reviews. And the modules by Alesis had sounds from the kbds.

So this went on for weeks and I kept getting shot down, sniped from all the bids on ebay, that happens. Then I put it all aside for a while, then checked one day last week again and found a good deal w/out a lot of bidders and expiring in 2 1/2 hours, actually enough time for me to get to the last minute before I had to return to work.

Well anyway, It has more than piano, and the controller is great, and I found an insanely awesome gritty organ sound close enough to B3 as I'll ever need, the patch is called gritorgan, a preset, and I jammed for a long time on that one :)

hey, that's cool!! i had the ORIGINAL Quadrasynth piano and had Alesis UPGRADE it to the PLUS "specs". i really liked that keyboard! it had great action (for me) and looked quite futuristic. i ended up trading it for the S4 Plus module (same sound engine in a rack-mount) and a compact Fatar controller keyboard. i needed the space!! it's a great synth. those "Quad Knobs" where a bit of an innovation for a digital synth (in the day). you might like those Q-cards also. they're quite inexpensive these days (it's like instantly adding a full bank of sounds to your synth)! the Vintage Synths or Vintage Keyboards card might be right up your alley. cheers!!:)

Where can I get some cheap Q-cards for my QS-6? I want to find the one with the kickass grand pianos.

also try ebay, I saw a few on there.

I can't find any pcmcia cards for the expansion slot. The 8 mb was the highest for the QS plus. Maybe they haven't been manufactured for a long time?
