Alesis Qs7.1

how can you even think about buying it with the new yamaha awm2 modules out?

Forget the Alesis Q keyboard. I bought one a while back and it was kind of ugly. A few good patches but the view LCD was crappola, very difficult to read. The knobs and dials and manual were a total vacuum.

I sold that board quickly.

I bought a Korg SP-1 stage piano to augment my synthesizer in my studio. But, you want more than an SP.

I'd check out the options and go to a vendor if possible or get some sound bites. Definitely, check out the Yams.

well i dont know cuz i can get the alesis qs 6.1 for under $500 and that seems like a good deal to me then i would be able to expand on that and get a sound module and the q card.

Green hornet what eactly do you mean the knobs and dials were a total vacuum?

Also you said you bought it a while back how were the bass sounds on it? I figure its not a great keyboard but its expandable and its cheap :) I need more input to really convince me not to get it.

Well, man, the knobs and dials don't do much; they didn't impress me after using the Yam DX-7 which is a great keyboard.

My advice to you is to go to a vendor and play some boards. Hear them. Look at the features. View the view screens.

Why buy a board and then have to buy "add-ons" to make it a better board?

Spend a few more pezzutos and buy a better board. What board?

Well, man, you need to decide that yourself. Visit the vendors. Put your fingers on the keys. Evaluate the "quality." The Q boards of Alesis are not worth much.

I sold my Alesis keyboard very soon after I bought it. I replaced it with an SP Korg Stage piano as an "extra" board in my studio.


Oh, there are a couple of decent patches on the Alesis Q boards; however, they don't impress me sonically or physically.

Like the old song, "To each his Own." But, give a good look before you buy the Alesis.

even with expansion board the q is extremely limited. I mean, 16 mb expansion, big deal... :cool:
 
thanks for the help guys i haven't made up my mind yet but i am limited with the funds i spent some yesterday on a compressor and alesis microverb from this pawn shop they also had the the eps 16+ and it was priced at $125 and i couldnt beleive it so i was gonna cop it then the guy told me it didnt work, heh.
so im thinking abouty just getting the yamaha djx lol i know but that way i can get a good sound module as well. Besides i heard the djx is good enough as long as you have skill.
 
Well, I don't produce hip-hop, or anything remotely near it. But I really dislike Alesis keyboards. The action feels like a toy. Even their so-called weighted keys. I played a weighted key model of theirs in a show room once, and the keys were ... sticky... kind of. But hell, I play on a $38,000 semi concert grand,,, so I'm going to be hard to please when it comes to keyboards!

But, for electronic gear, you need to try. I have a Korg SP100 as an "extra" keyboard in my studio. [I'm an old accordian player, who moved to Cordovox, and now, a studio synthesizer to record as I've tired of gigs.]

The Korg does a nice job; it only has a few patches and the piano is pretty good. There are a couple of other boards out there, SP's, that play really good piano patches and have "real" weighted keys. My Korg has weighted keys and one of the best Keyboard people around did some stuff at my studio, he is an old friend from Chicago, and he dug the Korg.

So, there are some nice SP's with good touches out there.

I have the QS6.1 and the Hip hop card, I like it. The only thing I wish is that it had an aux stereo outputs. The drums sets themselves are a little weak, but once everything goes into Sonar, I can amp them up a bit. The bass sounds are interesting, I have been able to do some cool things with them. I know a lot of people blast the QS series boards, but it has what I need.

Actually, I also have an old "Studio 90" keyboard controller, in addition to my Boston Grand. It's made by Fatar. I like the action on it,,, well enough I suppose. I have a Roland JV 2080 sound module connected to it, and I have the "Orchestral" expansion card installed. I really like the Roland sounds (although some are better than others.) This old Studio 90 is showing its age though. But when I buy a new one, I'll most likely get a Fatar. Someone once told me that Fatar makes the keyboard portion of the Alesis synths. I'm not so sure about that though. If they do, then Alesis does something to really screw them up at assembly!

I do like the KORG's too. But with the sound module I have, I'm really just looking for a controller.
 
I own an Alesis 6.1, and I love it. I hate weighted keys, and I think the action is great (my opinion). I play mostly B3 sounding stuff, or Roadz piano stuff (which would be pointless if it did have weighted keys). The stock Bass sounds aren't that great out of the can, but you can do alot with presets. I don't even bother using the keyboard's interface, I just hook it up to the PC and do all my preset work there (using the included software), and it does everything I want it to do. What other synth has 64 voice polyphony for the money?

I know, everybody likes what they have the best, but I did a lot of research before I bought it, and I feel that every penny was well spent.
 
I just got a card in the mail today saying Sam Ash is blowing out the QS7.1 for $499, March,1st,2nd,&3rd.
I can't reccomend it though,Iv'e only heard it played in other peoples songs around here,sounded pretty good though!

I use the Alesis QSR for a lot of rap music production but it is by all means not the only sound source I use. I find that there is no one module or keyboard that has every thing I need for a song. They all have different strong points. I use it for pads, some synth sounds and that piano sometimes. I mostly use Roland for strings. I use my Proteus 2000 for synths, leads, and basses. And of course, I use one of my favorite toys for drums; the R&B and Rap music standard, MPC2000XL studio plus. I also like the pads in the triton as well as other sounds.
 
I just bought a brand new Alesis QS7.1 in person at Sam Ash in West Hollywood for $499 plus tax.
They had quite a few (maybe 8?) piled up in boxes on the showroom floor. I showed the salesman my postcard from the previous "President's Day Sale" which listed the $499 deal. He didn't want to do the deal at first (he wanted me to pay $599). I explained to him that I couldn't come in on the days of the sale, and would he match the price on the card?...He reluctantly checked with someone, and a manager "OKed" it on the computer. I walked out with a brand new Alesis QS7.1 for $499 plus tax. It was in the box with power cable and foot pedal, and instruction manual (with assorted papers). There was no CD ROM, but I don't need that anyway. I think its a great deal - good luck guys!
