QS 6.1 + Cakewalk
Hey, I'm excited to try to help you out, because I JUST figured out how to do this myself.
I'm a little bit familiar with the QS keyboards (I used to sell them) but it's been awhile.
I know that to start off with you need to have the keyboard not in "program" mode, but in "mix" mode. I believe there's a particular "empty" mix that you're supposed to use for this, but I don't really know how to get to it. You may be able to just have it in mix mode and it will go there by it self.
From here, I'm going to tell you how to get assign the sounds you want directly from Cakewalk.
1. In Cakewalk: Choose Options-Instruments...
2. You are looking for "QS 6.1" listed in the box on the right. If it is NOT there, click the button that says: "Define"
3. Click "Import"
4. If it's not already, have the browser look in your Cakewalk Folder on your hard-drive. If there's a file that says "Alesis.ins" select it and hit "Open" and move to next #5. If it's not there, just do a windows search for "Alesis.ins" to make sure it's not lurking somewhere on your hard-drive. If it's there just point to it and move on. If it's not there, go to
www.cakewalk.com-downloads-instrument definitions-download "Alesis.ins" to someplace that you know where to find it on your hard-drive.
5. Clicking Open will open a box listing almost every Alesis product. Choose QS 6.1 and hit ok.
6. Hit close on "Define Instruments and Names" box
7. On "Assign Instruments" dialogue box, Choose the Midi Channels you want to use your QS 6.1 in the left box.(you can hit the shift key and choose multiple channels or all of them at once).
Alesis QS 6.1 one should be in the Right Box, so select it and hit "OK". And you're done.
Now, when you assign a track to a midi channel that you have setup to use your QS, the banks will automatically be setup to let you choose "User, Presets 1-3, or GM" And after you choose a bank, it will list the sounds in that bank from the "patch" list.
If you've changed names, numbers of sounds in your user bank of the QS, it won't be the same, but you'll still be able to select them.
Good luck. I hope this helps.
