I need a lightpipe adapter for my PC somthing with Adat Sync.

Alesis PCR looks good and has Emagic edit software too.

Anyone got one? I'd love to hear about it.

I use the ADAT/Connect part of it, but did not care for the multitracking software it came w. I use Samplitude. But for the most part I have been happy w/ that PCR card (cant say much for the ADATs though)

PCR - check this...

I use the PCR to get audio from my digital mixer into the PC. It has worked quite well for me, but I can't get it installed under W2000 (works great in 95, 98, me). I hope to call Alesis within the week to see if they have a workaround or are developing updated drivers.

This is one of those products that is becoming an orphan. Not that many people seem to use it, and support just doesn't seem to be there. I hope Alesis can prove me wrong, but in the mean time I'm saving money for a new lightpipe card.

Anybody have news on new drivers?

Hey Mark, which lightpipe are you saving for?? and what program are you bouncing down to on the PC?

I have heard good things about the RME Hammerfall card, I am looking into that one myself.

OH, forgot to mention THAT stuff... I use the adat pcr card as a sound card with SONAR. Sound Forge 5, too. It's been a great HD recording card, and handles playback well.

If I ever get enough pennies, the RME hammerfall lite looks like a great card. It does only lightpipe, but it has two of them - one for the digital mixer and one for my Alesis QS8. This card is the cheapest good solution I know of (but I'm open to suggestions, guys!)

That said, RME is reputed to have good A/D D/A converters as well. If they make a card with stereo analog in as well as lightpipe, that would be perfect. As a "gold channel" I could run straight into the DAW through a nice mic pre, avoiding my mixer entirely. At that point, unless RME's low-end converters suffer from jitter, I would be tracking with absolutely pro studio quality. I'd make up for my lack of variety in the mic/pre/compressor department by inviting friends over and using THEIR stuff... (tee hee).

Never had a problem with ADAT pcr. A cheap way to get Adat tracks on PC. I use the same start and end times and all .wav files are always in sync when imported into Nuendo.

Heard it before

Oh, sure, Mr. FlatRock. Using the card for it's designed purpose? sheesh, wuta concept. (Seriously now) By most accounts the AdatPcr transfers tracks to/from ADAT simply and elegantly (I could use more simple elegance in my studio).

Of course I'm asking for trouble, trying to use it as a Hard Disk Recording interface. It has worked perfectly under Windows 95, 98, and ME. My hope is that I can continue using it in Windows 2000, but I haven't been able to even install the MME drivers.

I still see the ADAT PCR listed in catalogs, so it seems that Alesis wants to continue selling them. Oh, for a working driver.

By the way, my hardware is "Version 1". Has anybody had luck installing their card in 2000?

Adat/edit for $275 USD??

Here in australia these things are hard to get (especially with the alesis takeover and all) so iv'e resorted to importing one my self from the US for 275 anyone seen them around for cheaper?

And what the emagic edit software like? (im not liking cubase much at the moment) i just need simple edit features with reliability.

Thanks for all your posts on this subject, there are so many options with configurations and recording unit types, i finally went the Adat option i hope this card will round out the balance between pc and tape.

Is anyone using their Adat as a anolog/digital converter going straight to hard disk rather the to tape?

Is it effective?

ADATS ROCK!!!!

Adat Edit Question and Info

Hey Fellas,

I just bought the Adat Edit PCR and have found it to work well for me. Due to the new Newmark Takeover of Alesis, I have been unable to Download the new 2.0 upgrade off of the site. Anyone have any ideas or wanna help me out? I would appreciate it. The Newmark guy said that the site should be up soon, but I am an impatient little fellow. Thanks in advance.

MiXit-G,

The Driver seems to be fine, although I have heard that the new driver sooths things out a bit. I know that it is free from the Alesis site, which is not working but should be soon. You might take a look at Ebay. Not sure what your feelings are about that, but I picked up a pretty much new one for $170.00. Most that you will find are not 2.0 but as soon as the site is back up you should be able to get that. Good luck.

P.S. Here are a few Ebay Sales:

Yes that would be great if i live on your continent!!! i wonder if i could still buy it?
They would probly try and shaft me knowing im offshore, maybee its too risky.

but damn that would be nice!

Wait... about that 2.0

Isn't 2.0 the hardware version? And isn't the latest driver something like 1.35?

If anybody get this card to work with Windows 2000 PLEASE let me know, either in this forum or at lacostma@jacksoncounty.org.

Thanks all!

I believe that the hardware has remained the same, but that there is a newer software version available. I contacted Alesis again today. Now, they say that their site will definately NOT be up before the end of this week. Problems with their new server too (Sweet eh?). I was able to get the tech support to email the latest ADAT/CONNECT Driver to me. Also, he attempted to send me the Latest EDIT software, but it did not email through for some reason. I was told also, that the PCR is not supported by widows 2000 or XP. Works fine with ME (Which is what I am running). If anyone needs the Latest Connect, I would be happy to email it to you. The file is about 1mb. And takes about 738 hrs to download via dialup. =). Good luck.

Guess what, the Alesis Web Site just bounced back up. Yippie.

Disregard the Last

New Edit Software??

The new driver seems to work fine. For some reason I never received the New Edit software, and now the site is back down. Sweet! I figured out that the Connect (Driver) is version 1.03 (That is the newest) The Card has not changed, and the newest Edit software is version 2.0. Sorry to hear about the ebay thing. Sometimes it is hit or miss. You should be able to make a purchase from where you are at via ebay. I sold some camera stuff to a guy in the UK. The only thing is that shipping tends to get expensive. Also there is a compnay called paypal.com that can help you with the US dollar conversions. Good luck.

Thanks, Fangar, for that info (I haven't had time to call Alesis while their Tech Support is open). The PCR does work great in ME, but at some point I will want to move ahead to 2000 or XP. I am willing to wrestle with all the low-latency issues in order to use soft synths and real-time plug-ins. My plan is to never buy another hardware synth or effects unit again.
