does anyone else besides myself feel that the nano comp. was a waste of money? i have a small homerecording setup and i use the nano for my compression being that i was on a s.s. budget. i know that compression is supposed to add 'punch' to a mix, and keep things nice and level in the mix. this hasn't happened in my dealings with the nano. could i have it hooked up in the chain wrong? is it just i'm expecting too much from a $100 box? help?

Hey smoooooov,

It's not you, it's the box. I have one too and haven't had any better luck than you have.
It does some things fairly well. Like if you just want to compress a bass track a little bit, it's okay. But it's no good for a whole mix.
I bought a Behringer dual-channel, multiband for about $200 that seems to work pretty well. But, I still use the nano once in a while for individual instruments. Probably just so I don't feel like it was a total waste.

I just overcompress stuff. I put the threshold around 1 and the ratio around infinity to 1 and let er rip. I figure if since I paid 100 bucks I might as well get SOME kinda change in my sound. But then again...

Well, if you consider that Class A type compressors runs around $2000, I don't think that you can expect to terribly much from something that is the size of my external modem that I use to talk to you guys.

Alesis compressors suck! I doubt they will ever make a good one.

An RNC by FMR is far better than a nano compressor.

Lets all put money up our asses and hope that we shit a hit single!!!

The RNC is putting the high-dollar compressors to shame...

You guys talk about the RNC or whatever a lot. What is it exactly and where can you get one?

i have a nanocompressor - i use it all the time but NEVER for compressing a whole mix! it's totally worth the money if you just use it on bass tracks (vocal sometimes too). i personally record compressed bass straight to the track. if you want overall digital compression for cheap the direct x plugins from timeworks and others are getting pretty great for the price. i think of it as a glorified stomp-box which is what it is.
